OT ... Roaming SIM cards

Just seeking anyone's local experience with any of these.

RoamingSIM seems widespread, even available at Australia Post Offices according to website, however, I haven't been able to find any reviews out there.

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations about this concept.

Thanks.

Have a look at this post on the OZ/NZ forum:

It may be a different product, but most simply undercut somewhat the expensive roaming costs of Oz telcos -still leaving plenty of profit.

I would recommend getting local SIM cards were you can. There's quite a few threads on this in most of the regional fora.

Thanks.

Seems it's just as confusing as trying to decide on one's local mobile plan !!

I actually work for a company that does roaming SIM's to save frequent travellers money. If you're interested, drop me a line (I won't spam the forum with the details).

I make no cash out of it (I'm one of the technical people) but am happy to help out a fellow FT person, and if you have problems, you can drop me a line directly :)

I tend to get a local sim (usually not many different destinations per trip) through VRoam (http://www.vroam.com.au/). (Apologies if it's bad form to name them - I have no connection to them, I just posted it because I have found them okay to use.)

I used to use United Mobile who were very good, but it appears they are no more :(

Correct. They wound up a few weeks ago (or more accurately were forced to wind up).

They also used Liechtenstein numbers. Not so cheap for people to call you from. We use UK numbers (+44) and US (+1) with toll free forwarding for people to call you "free" from their end, and you pick up the tab for the call. Also cheap outbound of course:)

And responded:) I think I recall them using a telco for +44 numbers (Won't go into details but i'm across this stuff). The SIM cards we sell that are actually ours also do data included so no need for a separate SIM for data:)
