Qantas and Etihad Airways code-share

Qantas will code share on 21 Etihad flights a week from Australia - including Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane - to Abu Dhabi. The Qantas routes covered by the arrangement include services between Sydney and Brisbane, and Melbourne to Auckland.

It was only a matter of time Qantas needs to be in the middle east....

They used to codeshare on GF so makes sense that they have now got a replacement

QF and the Middle East- Again

Nothing new, QF Code shared with Gulf Air on following routes only a couple of years ago:

Bahrain
Beirut
Dubai
Athens

I guess buying a QF ticket on these new code share services will mean a hefty increase in ticket price(compared to buying equivalent ticket with EY) for privilige of QF paper and FF rewards.

EY is probably way to go for QF as EK(arch enemy of QF:D) seem to be doing it tough..even rumours the Abu Dhabi Royals(owners of EY) are eyeing EK for a takeover and amalgamating both carriers. Makes sense as having two major carriers, not to mention QR, and to a lesser extent GF is just crazy.

I was even hearing noises that QF via Jetstar was eyeing Athens and Beirut as potential destinations...not sure how credible those rumours were/are.

I hear EY is a great hard product, however, the service levels are not quite there yet..perhaps on par with QF after all:p

Will it is new as they have a new partner ;)

QF needed a partner after that alliance faulted.

You could well be right as the last two times I have flown to Europe I have travelled on Emirates - better price, good customer service, newer planes, central hub at Dubai, etc. Fly Cairns to Perth, have a good nights sleep and then a single hop to Dubai and all of Europe is opened up to me from there

As was the case with pricing on BA in PE, this went through the roof when Qantas installed PE on their flights to Europe. All of a sudden the BA pricing rose to meet the Qantas pricing.

I think the comment on pricing from Cedar Jet 'is on the money' so as to speak

Surprised they did not want to do something with RJ instead.

Any chance to accrue miles from EY flights?

To use RJ, you would have to connect in BKK or BOM. This way its direct to middle east, and I imagine more competitive with EK then.

Unless I am mistaken, if you're using the QF code, then you should get SC's and points as per usual.

This still does not really get QF into DXB - this city is where the action is in the Middle East.

Not far from it (72 Miles?): http://gc.kls2.com/cgi-bin/gc?PATH=a...OR=&MAP-STYLE=

And the locals will be able to drive it in 30 min or less (why bother obeying the 120 km/h speed limit if the speedo says 240). I've just been there and know all too well how life on the road is cheap!

Similar to the QF codeshare to ICN where the privilege of sitting on the right hand side of the plane costs a heavy surcharge.
