Qantas Route Changes + Product Update (73H w PTVs)
Major announcements:
All 733s will be retired from the Jetconnect fleet, with a another 734 to join the fleet shortly, then the 73Hs later in the year.
Jetstar NZ:
(From 10 June)
(From 24 June)
and some exciting news and confirmation of what we have all long thought:

- Jetconnect will cease domestic New Zealand services
- Qantas Group will cancel all Rotorua services
- Jetstar to begin domestic NZ ops to CHC/WLG/AKL/ZQN
- Cancellation of weekend BNE-WLG services
- Improved timing of daily AKL-LAX service, to connect with QF’s daily JFK flight
- MEL-AKL increased to thrice daily
- SYD-AKL increased from four to five daily – mixture of 73H and 763
- SYD-PVG increasing to daily eff 31 March (already announced)
- MEL-PVG being scrapped eff late March (already announced)
- SYD-PEK being permanently cancelled eff 17 April 2009
- SYD-BOM will cease operating nonstop, although Qantas will introduce a new service from Sydney to Singapore then on the Mumbai

Mr Joyce said that from 10 June, Qantas' New Zealand subsidiary, Jetconnect, which operates a fleet of B737 aircraft, would focus its operations on the Tasman.
"Jetconnect's current fleet will be progressively upgraded, initially with three next generation B737-800s to be delivered between September and November," Mr Joyce said.
"The B737-800 aircraft will be used on both the Sydney-Auckland and Melbourne-Auckland routes, offering 12 Business and and 156 Economy class seats, individual in-seat video screens for every passenger and new seating styled by Qantas Creative Director Marc Newson."

styled by mark newson - is this suggesting the seats from the a380
do the pe seats become the new business seats
Also would have thought 12 business seats sounds a bit light for trans tasman

Hmmm... some of the 737's are going to be redeployed more permanently trans-tasman, I guess others will be retired.
e.g. MEL-AKL going to three times daily along with the introduction of more 73H's between SYD and AKL.
(I have a feeling QF25/QF26 may soon no longer operate to/from MEL, perhaps operating AKL/LAX only ... is that possible?)

There is nothing in the way of legislation which prevents QF running a AKL-LAX services with no onwards connection through to Australia. Remember NZ was doing just this only a few years back with their SYD-LAX services.

Currently they fly a 2 class 744 and a 734 between MEL and AKL daily ; that's 72 J seats e/w.
With 3 x 734's it would drop to 48.

The retimed QF25 is terrible for ex-AKL - lose half a day of productive work. For those connecting from elsewhere in NZ the late afternoon departure is even worse for connections - eg WLG-AKL has just 2 flights a day on jetstar, later increasing to 3.
It has the appearance of being rejigged for the MEL-JFK market rather than for NZ-US market.

The retimed QF25 is terrible for ex-AKL - lose half a day of productive work. For those connecting from elsewhere in NZ the late afternoon departure is even worse for connections - eg WLG-AKL has just 2 flights a day on jetstar, later increasing to 3.

except that it seems the flight will no longer originate in MEL - according to the info released today MEL-AKL will be 3 x daily with 73H , no mention at all of 744 on the route

Same seats, I would not bet on getting an international 767, but it means you will be served by Jetconnect crew rather than the ordinary QF mainline crew. Yes service should be better with a portable DVD for IFE.
