Reward Availability

Reward Availability
Could someone attest to the availability on domestic Australia / New Zealand flights? For instance, if at any given time I wanted to book a reward flight through Qantas, would I have several options of direct flights - or would it be the norm that only connecting flights were available? Or would the norm be that no flights were available?
I'm asking because we are moving to Australia and we would like to determine whether AA or Qantas would be best for availability of reward flights. Mainly we care about Lounge access and availability of rewards within the continents.

All seats are available on all flights for award travel, admittedly at (sometimes, but not always) extortionate rates.
The new AnySeat program is too new to enable anyone to comment - at this stage - regarding the availability of seats in the (old) Classic award category.
Give it a few months, and we will know more.
FWIW, availability of QF Classic Award seats should match that of AA awards on QF, the only difference being how far ahead you can book.

Lounge access is given with QF Gold or AA Platinum status. Or by buying a QF Club membership.
AA has the better redemption rate and lower taxes by order of magnitude.
Be also aware that a lot of QF flights within Australia are now actually Jetstar flights and AFAIK you can not book them using AA miles.
