"A380 giant in Qantas colours at long last"

http://www.news.com.au/travel/story/...014090,00.html

"AFTER a two-year wait Qantas has finally seen the finished product, with the first of its Airbus A380 jets now dressed in airline livery."

Only five paragraphs long and still full of contradictions. Terrible journalism.

"The 380-seat super jumbo emerged from the paint shop at Hamburg this week ready to return to France where it will undergo test flights with Qantas pilots.

Cabin installation is now being completed in Hamburg before the aircraft returns to Airbus production headquarters in Toulouse, France, for formal delivery to the airline."

"The first three of the 20 big jets on order are expected to arrive in Australia by December.

The first, pictured, is due to land in August in Australia and will be operating between Melbourne and Los Angeles by October. "

Eh?

Speaking of the A380, is there an exact time frame in August it's expected to arrive in Oz? Any word on what it will do/where it will go from August until it's put on MEL-LAX in October?

It will do a lot of flying - without passengers. CASA requires the aircraft to be in Australia for 40 days before it can officially begin it's flying duties with paying punters. I don't know the arrival date yet, but when it does arrive, scheduled services should begin 40 days from then. Subsequent aircraft also having a waiting period but are reduced each time.

As posted it cannot take paying PAX until it's been in in Australia for 40 days.

Other reports on this forum and elsewhere indicate the first commercial flight will be SYD-LAX then it will begin plying the air betwixt MEL and LAX.

So It it arrives in Oz on Aug 20, it can start operations on or after 29 September.

"Fails to take off" is an understatement. Business and coach look like a bad sci-fi flick from the late 60's.

A self-service drink bar, though? That I could get into.

Except Qantas have had a self service J bar far ages; they are minimally stocked and often you need to access an FA to get a beer.

Poor writing but not necessarily contradictions
