Qantas send staff to charm school

Herald Sun, 10 Mar 08

Qantas is sending its entire force of 20,000 customer service staff to charm school,as the flying kangaroo invests in multi-million dollar projects.

The new $10 million training academy for staff and new recruits is one of two multi-million dollar ventures the airline has planned to coincide with next October's delivery of its first A380 super jumbo.

Some of them need it, based on my flight SYD-MEL yesterday (Saturday 22 March) in J. Some of them don't though (based on my flight back last night, Sunday evening in WHY).

And the Swans lost, although neither side deserved to win (a concensus from four qualified Aussie Rules umpires sitting with me watching the game, both teams were bad enough that they both deserved to lose).

Rumour file on 3aw this morning, rat found in the overhead bins on a London to Hong Kong flight. Had to spend several hours finding and exterminating the rat.

Yes you can listen to them on the internet.

Interesting to see if this is true.

Dazzling Qantas may yet lose its shine

http://business.smh.com.au/dazzling-...0327-21z2.html

I'm confused by this statement:

Jetstar International also reported an impressive 81.5per cent load factor. Not bad, given the hit the airline is taking on its long-haul routes into Japan with the high Australian dollar.
I would have thought that the high AUD actually increases loads ex-AU since it is cheaper to travel overseas. Or do they mean there are less Japanese coming to Australia because of the exchange rate?

Less Japanese coming to Australia. The JQ flights to Japan are designed for inbound tourism. JQ has a sales office setup in Japan designed to market and sell these flights. The outbound from AU PAX are just a bonus.

PER-SYD flight diverts to ADL after window 'pops'

Any ideas on the plane, was it one of the ancient 743s?

I would have thought so moa999...

Instils me with confidence, given I'll take that flight (or vv) in the next couple of weeks in J.

Qantas quiet after director departure

From SMH: Paul Anderson's departure

Qantas quiet after departure... [SMH]
...
Paul Anderson has resigned after five years on the airline's board. His departure leaves a chair empty on one of Australia's most sought-after boards, but Qantas is yet to confirm it will replace him.

...chairman Leigh Clifford said it was "with regret" that he accepted Mr Anderson's resignation.
The Qantas board is starting to look quite different from the one that recommended shareholders accept the $11.1 billion private equity takeover in December 2006.

Chief executive Geoff Dixon has said he will not seek to extend his contract when it expires in July next year.

Former chairman Margaret Jackson announced last May that she would step down amid the fallout from the failed takeover bid. Her close friend and board colleague, James Packer, quit hours after her announcement. Qantas did not replace Mr Packer on the board.

Hmmm. BA might be in need of a new CEO soon. Wonder if GD is angling for that?
