"I know O class doesnt earn points, but would it stille arn SC's?"

O class earns nothing in the AA scheme. In the QF scheme it counts as any other economy fare, earning miles and status credits at the discount economy rate

I wonder if the OP is asking about earning QF points flying AA O class, or earning AA points flying QF O class?

If the former, as the reference to SCs suggests, http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/terms does indeed say that when flying AA, discounted fares booked in E, L, O, Q, R, T, U, W, X and Z class earn nothing. IIRC, if you earn no points, you also earn no SCs.

I could of booked a USairways fare, at least then I would of got something... oh well, know for next time!

Seems crap, that you can earn points better with a non oneworld airline at times. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I can't find anything that confirms this in the T's & C's. Points are something the partner airline pay the FF program owner for. SC's are not paid by the partner airline, but provided by QF and don't have a monetary value.

I would be expecting SC's for any published fare. I would not be expecting SC's for award fare or other unpublished fares such as industry discounts.

"13.1.3 Status Credits are only earned on Eligible Flights of Qantas, oneworldTM Alliance Airlines, Air Pacific and QantasLink, or other airlines as determined by Qantas. The number of Status Credits earned vary depending on fare class travelled in. These are posted on the Qantas website qantas.com and are updated from time to time."

It then comes down to what is an eligible flight.

"9.2.1 Points for air travel may only be earned for paid travel on regular scheduled flights (subject to clause 9.2.4) where a Qantas flight number (or the flight number of any oneworldTM Alliance Airline or Frequent Flyer Partner Airline) is entered on the ticket ("Eligible Flight")."

No mention here about an eligible flight not being a flight earning points, since that is mentioned further down in 9.3.

"9.3.1 In addition to the Eligible Flight requirements in clause 9.2.1, the following Fare types and route restrictions apply to the earning of Points on certain Frequent Flyer Partner Airline and oneworldTM Alliance Airline flights. Fares and routes listed are those which are not eligible for earning Points unless otherwise specified:

(...snipped...)"

So they clearly refer to "eligible flights" as being different to flights earning points.

This is obviously not what they intended, but given how mean-spiritted they have been recently with some changes, I would be forcing them to stick to the letter of their T&C's. Of course, given how they have extended status to others when they didn't *quite* requalify, maybe this is not a good thing, but then, maybe they WOULD have requalified if they had gotten SC's for those sectors.

AmI waffling yet?

Thadocta, why do you assume that they intended something other than what they published?
I would say it is intentional, because some of the fare classes excluded from points are genuine discount economy rather than consolidator or award, e.g. CX discount economy class V. It is reasonable that these should get SCs.

So, as you correctly point out, the published rules mean you can get SCs on flights which get zero points or reduced points.

"Eligible flights" for SCs are defined in section 9.2.1 with the exclusions in section 9.2.4 i.e. charters, awards, travel indsutry rebated, prizes etc.

It is easy to work out what they intended based upon their practice - you do not get SC's on flights which do not earn points. They worded it rather badly in the T&C's though.

So it looks like we need a lawyer to fly CX class V and then sue them for the missing SCs. (OK, I know, lawyers do not fly V class.)
