N class availability

I'm going to be in Sydney for a couple of weeks in early May and I thought I might do a day trip on the weekend for something to do. Unfortunately (?) due to reading FT too much, I've developed an obsession for status credits that is quite unjustified given my lowly NB status, therefore I'm after as many segments as possible for not much money.

I've only really found one possible itinery, SYD-ADL-MEL-SYD for $244.09, but the ADL-MEL flight has only one N class seat left, and I don't want to book it yet because my Sydney trip hasn't been confirmed.

Is there any chance that more N seats will be released closer to the date? I'm guessing not. Otherwise, there are other possible itineries that have plenty of N availability, but there's too much availability on direct flights to have any chance of booking multiple segments at this stage. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I have yet to see more N class seats becoming available closer to "the date" (why would or should they do it anyway?). If you have a particular set of segments you want (and the segments are allowable for the fare), you may be better off using an agent or QF direct and paying a slightly higher fare (ie not N class). The N class fares have segments totally up to the internet computer to select - the QF reservations agents won't touch them.

If you REALLY want status credits, it is not uncommon for people to buy a J class ticket SYD ADL and go via CBR and MEL. That's 30 SC per segment (total 90).

I didn't really expect that they would release more. The only reason I can think of would be if the more expensive tickets on the flight weren't selling. Paying more doesn't sound like much fun... I should probably just do something around Sydney on the weekend and forget about the points, like a normal person would.

Why is it unjustified?

You may never get above NB status, but don't forget that those satus credits turn into upgrade credits when they turn 250, and upgrade credits ARE useful.

Can anyone tell me what a good $:status credit rate is?

Thanks

Milage runs on Qantas might be a help - it's probably the right thread to continue your question.
