Long overdue; I guess the delayed A380 service made planes unavailable for this new route (and one that QF promised to restart when it was suspended). Lots of commercial potential on this route, and EZE is becoming a Oneworld hub. QF should do very well and it should help with the chronic shortage of A/D inventory across the deep south pacific.

Hmmm - 126 miles less than SYD-LAX. But it doesn't seem so by looking at the map. Might be some nice views of Antarctica if the flight detours a little south of the GC route. And if a night time flight (bet it is), might see two sun rises in 14 hours (if going EZE-SYD).

Ahh, so this maybe why EZE-SYD is US$847 on LA

The joys of navigating on a round globe. This illustrates what OG is talking about.

If you are lucky you will get some nice views of Antarctica. But certainly some glimpses of Patagonia and the Argentine coast.

What is still missing for me is one LA flight: EZE-JNB. And that would allow a nice DONE3 and many other great combinations.
It is a constant problem for me. OW covers SW Pacific to South America and Australia to South Africa. Star Alliance covers PER-JNB and South Africa to South America.
You can't close the link at any of the alliances. And never mind Skyteam.

Great news to see some decent competition to LA on the Oz-SA routes, AR was/is never really a contender, EZE is such a great city hopefully the fares will come down a bit now.

It maybe more likely to come the other way MH has a KUL-JNB-EZE flight would be great if CX extended there JNB service to EZE/GRU/GIG, at the moment there is a real hole in South America-Asia services. I guess for QF this could also open some opportunities for transiting pax thru to Asia.

Ben,Ben,Ben,Ben,Ben -did you think before you wrote that last phrase
QANTAS is starting flights and you think that this might mean the fares will come down? That's not QF's modus operandi. Well you might be right on one front - maybe AR's fares will have to come down to maintain any traffic.

Is this new service instead of or in addition to the previously announced SYD-SCL nonstop?

I can see SYD-EZE in the schedule, but not SYD-SCL.

I noticed yesterday EZE was loaded into the schedule. However no awards loaded yet (can someone please post if you see they have been loaded) and no fares for EZE on the website (hopefully that will be fixed soon).

While only 3 times a week, it should make it a bit easier to get to/from South America on awards or xONEx's.

Maybe, as most current routings go via USA which is a pain for most South Americans. However, EZE is not well positioned to take advantage as requires backtracking for most and not that many OW flights between EZE and other places in South America.
