Quick J seating question
 

I know there are a gazillion threads on J seating---sorry. I'd just like to know if rows 29 and 30 are OK on a 747 LAX-MEL. Four of us are flying, and to be together, we get 29AB and 30AB. I know 30 is the last row of J---is it OK? We are two couples, don't _need_ to be together, just thought it might be fun http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif My husband and I were originally assigned to 12AB (I've read the various opinions on upstairs vs. downstairs). For any of you who can actually _read_ the QF seatmap and tell which seats are assigned (I don't number myself among you!), we are flying on Mar 13 on flight 94.

I would prefer 12 upstairs rather than 29/30 downstairs. These seats are in the small section just in front of Y, and you don't get much separation.

That being said, if 4 of you are going to sit together, and make it a social occasion rather than an opportunity to sleep, then it's a great place to be - small cabin, handy to the galley (and the refreshments!) and the toilets.

Just got back from a LAX trip. Flew MEL-LAX on the same flight, and were in 29JK. I would NEVER recommend these seats (basically the same as what you mention....) it is VERY noisy down in that section being so close to Y. If at all possible, go for 4 upstairs.

Update: I called back about 7-8 hrs after switching seats. Sounds as though J is pretty full. 12AB were already gone (!), and there were no two seats together upstairs (I don't really care about sitting w/ my friends, but on a flight this long, I _would_ like to sit/sleep with my hubbie...). The best I could do was row 26 (for all of us). Not a big difference, but a little better, anyway. I hope my friends are grateful---they didn't have any assigned seats at all!

Row 26 is actually better - main deck is MUCH better than upstaris, as nobody likes to sit on the main deck, so it tends to be deserted!

If you can secure 26AB and 26 DF then all the better since 26E will be last to be allocated and a good chance of not being occupied. If it is allocated to someone they will be happy to exchange for 26F anyway so you all get to sit close by anyway.

Also note that you will get off the aircraft before upper deck passangers which means a shorter queue at immigration. At LAX TBI terminal they use the second door just behind row 27AB (not sure if they still use this door for T4 arrivals). In Australia they use the forward door just in front of 23AB.
