improving status
If attaining a higher status in the first month of your FF calendar year is it possible to therefore retain that status for 23 months?
Cheers |

Thanks Dave
However have been a FF member for some time |
Unless QF make allowances for travel (breaching the T&C of QFF) in a the period prior to membership you cannot claim milage & status for flights prior to being a member.
Has anyone had any experience with this? http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/terms 9.1.2 Points can only be earned in relation to acquiring goods or services or other transactions made by the Member after the Member's enrolment date. |
I believe you are entitled to claim any travel 14 days prior to joining, at least this was the case in 95
|
That certainly wasn't the case when I joined (Jan 96): I was able to get credit for a flight I had made a few weeks previously. Possibly the rules have been tightened since then?
|
Last march I enrolled someone into the scheme and was able to get mileage/status credits for QF flights going back to early January. It was necessary to have the full flight information , but the person was able to check each flight I quoted to him over the phone and credit immediately
Dave |
Same when I joined - I joined mid Jan 2000, and had a flight creditted late November 1999.

What Dave - you've only been a member since 2000? Gee, and I thought you were a FF guru not a FF newbie !!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

"Yeah, you need an FF number starting with 00 to be a somebody around here " NM, not true, I am learning a lot from reading your posts, plus contributions by thadocta, shillard and many others. Really appreciate the efforts you put in on the board. I joined FF in early 90's ..number is 0010XXX. I joined my son up in December and his FF # is 4.1 million plus. How the program has grown. Again thanks for your contributions - I am sure all the other silent lurkers appreciate it too. |
JohnSydney2000, welcome aboard. Please do contribute and join the discussions - as off beat as they may get from time to time. 4 posts in 5 months is very restrained!
The 00xxxxx FF numbers are a bit of an anomoly. If you joined in early 90's and have a 001 number, it is a fair bet you joined the Australian Airlines FF program or were even a Flight Deck member prior to the FF program commencing. The AA (better call it TN so we don't continue to offend our friends from over the big pond) program was merged with QF later, but the FF numbers remained the same (just added the 00 to the front to make them 7 digits long). So people who joined the QF program prior to the TN merger may well have been members longer and have a higher number. Once the programs were merged, new numbers were allocated in such a way as to be unique, not reflective of you position in the joining queue. So a number of 4 million does not mean you are the 4 million's member. But I do get comments even from QF people about the low number. According to my card, I joined in 91 (oh my, that is why I have such a pile of FF statements in the filing cabinet - time to sort again). I think it was soon after the TN FF program commenced. Anyone who was a Flight Deck member prior to the FF program will have an even lower number, which I guess is where you 001 number originates from. |
Originally posted by NM: ..were even a Flight Deck member prior to the FF program commencing. For a time now I've wondered what the "Flight Deck Number" on our Travel Requisition forms at the office meant. The thing hasn't been updated in, what, over 10 years? |
NM Thanks for your kind words..I am a restrained sort of guy.
" The 00xxxxx FF numbers are a bit of an anomaly. If you joined in early 90's and have a 001 number, it is a fair bet you joined the Australian Airlines FF program or were even a Flight Deck member prior to the FF program commencing. " Now your comments made me llok up some old files. I originally joined in 1988 with a number 15,000+. And the program was called Flight Deck..are the unused guest passes I still have valid? And then in 11/92 also acquired the current number 10XXX. Then about December 92 it seemed to acquire the 2 extra zero's at the front that you mentioned, then both memberships were merged. My reference to 4.1 million plus was for my son's membership which began in Dec 2002. Thanks kindly NM, you prompted a little walk down memory lane on my QF FF history. I note your AA/TN comment. Now do you know if I can still use: a) undated unused Flight Deck guest passes ? b) undated unused blue/white Qantas Club passes ? c) I also have June 2003 expiry cards ( I can work that one out). Do you know when they started dating them? And finally to get back on the topic of "improving status" , I thought I'd pass on a run I am doing Mon to Thurs next week. You might recall the Qantas sale on Dec 29th/30th from memory. I managed to grab some web tickets, as I sure hundreds of lurkers also have done. 6 legs Mon to reach Gold, booked MEL Formule 1 3 nights times $59 then 4 sectors Tue, 4 sectors Wed, 2 Thurs back to SYD. Sorry to bring it back on topic, but want to stay on side with the moderator. |

I think they would like to see the end of them, but as noted previously they seem to multiple when you turn the lights off. c) The earliest dated ones I can find expired in Dec 2001, so I assume they came out in 2000 - but that is just my speculation. 6 legs Mon to reach Gold, booked MEL Formule 1 3 nights times $59 then 4 sectors Tue, 4 sectors Wed, 2 Thurs back to SYD. Sorry to bring it back on topic, but want to stay on side with the moderator. But I do like the mix of on and off topic discussion around here. Coming into topic a bit late 'coz have been doing a flying trip at 1 m altitude from South Oz to Sydney - geez it's thirsty weather out there - tried a "West End" lager - no wonder its called "rear end"....
Mrs og should be part of this as she has a 009xxxx QFFF number (formerly Australian Airlines). I can only rank in the younger members with a 02xxxxx number (still, its better than having no leading "0" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ). |
Ok Dave - you've now been reinstated to demigod status. Only 100 more status credits required to achieve lifetime guru level http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

God, I have missed checking the ite for a couple of days...NM, likewise I was a FD 150XX member (joined Feb 89) and transferred to QF on 0056XXX. Now I undersand why Dave only joined a couple of years ago. We probably annoyed him between 91 and 94 , so he thought he'd join us http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Actually (back on the topic Willyroo http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif ), I'm wondering whether if I get to 2,600 SC's by end Feb (my year end), whether I should ask Qantas for extension of my Plat status for the following year - I've both qualified (1,400) and re-qualified (1,200) in the same year. One can only ask http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif. Has anybody else been so unlucky to travel so much and asked the question?
(Note to self: re-acquaint myself with Fiancee on Wed night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ideasmilie.gif, she's probably forgotten what you look like ) |
I'm not sure how you will go with your original request Lindsay but I hope at least that you have given your other 1/2 to be the companion Gold Card.
It's an interesting point however. Perhaps they may promote you to the Chairmans Lounge as a reward for your support. |

Dave, getting re-acquainted tonight - nice use of my abbreviation though http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif Wedding on 30 August, and we are flying BNE/SYD/SIN/DPS with CB on my b'day (31/8), so I should hope that is one day I can be guaranteed an upgrade!!!
NM, she was a FF and noted as Partner, so now very Gold and loving it (particularly upgrades to J with my points). We're savings hers at present...I earn more quickly. Whether I invite her...hhhmmm...will think about it...meeting you two might be too much for her http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif |
GoldFlyer, interesting point, I'll follow up on that one...but what is the difference between Chairmans Club and F lounge anyway??
My godfather used to me in CC back in the days when it was the place to get into!! |

Many airlines have similar invitation-only memberships. See the BA board for info on BA's Premier membership (aka BA Prem). Very little is ever documented about these memberships. In many QF terminals there is a separate lounge facility for CL members. In SYD, it is between the two escalator sets and on the oposite side to the QC lounge. |
Originally posted by NM: Chairman's lounge is not just a lounge per se, but an invitation-only version of Qantas Club for people who are able to influence decisions that may be of benefit to QF. This includes CEOs of large companies who commit to large travel spends with QF as well as polititians and the like. Seems like they expect these people to generally be flying alone or with one (and one only) companion. Decor was much the same as the QC lounge, but lighting was a lot more subdued. Staff said this was a typical CL, and that most were the same. Dave |
Dave, did the CBR CL have a divider down the middle so the left-sided poly's move to the left and the right-sided ones go to the right when they enter? A bit like separating sheep and goats I suspect??
They need to keep the lighting subdued so those on different sides of politics can't see each across the left-right divide and forget they are not in the House and hurl abuse at each other. Perhaps Lindsay could ask if we could use the CL in BNE on 21st? [This message has been edited by NM (edited 02-05-2003).] |
NM, we'll have to ask. My recollection is that it's around Gate 22, just an opaque sliding door with no signage.
Didn't get a chance to look at CBR CL yesterday, got the 11.45am direct flight rather than 6.30pm (was booked on). Great when meetings finish early!! |
