Sorry, willyroo. If this doesn't work, please delete these three topics.
I guess I'm just not technologically savvy enough. |
SPN, I would appreciate you telling us all exactly what you were trying to do here.
|
I think he is trying to delete the 3 posts completely.

SPN Lifer has had posting priveleges suspended (not by me!) until he provides an explanation about what's going on. Apparently he's trying to use some UNIX commands to create threads with strange outcomes, including how to create a totally blank post.
Says he's "not technologically savvy", then uses UNIX... I know we could go on for hours about this one, but I think it best we move on from this thread. Cheers willyroo (Edited - nice to see that feature back - for grammar http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif) ------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Moderator of the Qantas Board Off-topic? Naahh, not here! [This message has been edited by willyroo (edited 02-03-2003).] |
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by willyroo: SPN, I would appreciate you telling us all exactly what you were trying to do here.</font> Hello Willyroo, This is in response to your question about my three topics posted on the Qantas board at FlyerTalk, that I asked you to delete. I was trying to emulate the meeting at the Qantas Club. However, not as many people are likely to make it up here to Saipan, but at least the CNMI is in the same time zone as SYD, and it is certainly closer than the US. I am a very good tour guide. CO flies CNS-GUM-SPN, also DPS-GUM-SPN. What I wanted to do was create a "blank" topic replying [totally empty] with my invitation, and then post links to it as appropriate. See Thread of Empty Topic http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/008696.html Thread of Empty [Black Hole] Topic http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/008713.html OK, Please Let Me In On It http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ft...ML/008735.html Needless to say, as is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer, my technical skills do leave something to be desired! (This was before the "secret" was shared in the final link, and the belated advice not to try this on other forums). So I can assure you there was no intent to artificially inflate post count, nor anything else nefarious. Hope everyone had a good Australia Day! Could you please post the foregoing quoted response to your query in the original thread, so Qantas Forum participants don't think I was trying to be disrespectful? I was born in Australia, and have 650,000 QF miles, and OZ has the nearest population of FlyerTalk participants, so I certainly wouldn't intend anything of the sort. All you have to do is cut and paste. I would have posted directly to the board myself, but my posting privileges seem to have been suspended for an indeterminate period for my transgression. Then feel free to delete at least the other two threads. Thanks, SPN Lifer (Edited - more than 10 minutes later! - to tidy up) [This message has been edited by willyroo (edited 02-04-2003).] |
Again, sorry, everyone.
My lessons from the 24-hour suspension are (1) that it is not as easy for a volunteer moderator to delete an errant thread as I had supposed; and (2) since I'm not a techie, don't try to play like one. [I really wouldn't know a UNIX command from one in HTML or UBB or whatever. The last programming language I learnt was "BASIC" back in the 1970s, and I haven't used it since.] But I was sincere in my offer to willyroo that if any FlyerTalkers are coming up to Saipan, please let me know on this thread, as I don't post my e-mail address for anti-spam reasons. Though most of our tourists are from Japan, we do get a few from Down Under. Cheers! |
Welcome back, SPN, and glad to hear it's all been sorted. Thank you for your clarifying email yesterday.

What it does is it downloads the headers of the emails sitting on your server - the From, To, Subject, Time, Date and Size fields. You can then go through and delete them BEFORE you download the full email. It will also send off bounce emails if you want, so that the spammers think your email address is no longer vaild. I get about 100 spams a day, and I delete the lot in about 30 seconds, and THEN download the real emails I want to read. Dave |
