The QUANTAS filter

Just as the system is able to identify and **** out inappropriate swear words, could it be similarly modified to filter out QUANTAS and replace it as necessary?

Or better still, auto-insert: "Pleez exkewse the fact that I can't be a***-ed to spell proporly."

www.quantas.com - even Qantas seems to be giving up!

Dave99!!!!
I CANT believe it!!!!
that is really funny.

kanebear Jul 19, 2002 9:22 pm

What's funny is, quantas.com for me loads MUCH faster than qantas.com, and also defaults to the US webpage whereas no matter what I do, qantas.com goes to the OZ page... whodathunkit.

Well only Americans are consistently ingorant about how to spell the world's oldest continuously operating airline, so it makes sense to default to their own little world. Heck it it defaulted to the oz site their little brains also would get twisted into knots figuring out "that funny currency". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Actually I believe Americans just do not care how a small little airline in OZ cares to spell its name. Acronym or not if we like QUANTAS then QUANTAS it is and apparently from the web site the company agrees!!! Maybe they will repaint the planes next.

<groan>

MUST we have this silly debate every two months?

Quantas/Qantas/QANTAS

All sounds the same!

Yep, that would be right RichLond.

You guys spell so poorly 100,000 folks a day I am told need to go to www.WhiteHouse.com to look for photos and advice of President Brush? (Bet they get one heck of a shock on THAT website!) Vice President Dan Quayle was after all positive that potatoe was correct spelling.

Or is that President Busch? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The Encyclopedia Britannica votes for KLM as the oldest airline in continual operation. You'd think with that name they'd side with Qantas. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Dave I recall reading in a Qantas history that KLM did not operate daily for all of WWII when under German occupation. That is why I used the words "continuously operating airline" in the statement.

KLM "It is the world's oldest continuously operating airline."

The encyclopedia didn't leave much wiggle room. However, like any superlative maybe they need a footnote.

OK, then. QF (note the spelling without a "u") is the oldest continuously operating airline from an English-speeking country in the southern hemisphere with a kangaroo image on the tail and a web site for non-spellers.

Is that clear enough http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Clear as mud to me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

No, they just need a complete re-write. Britanicca wound down their editorial department years ago, and have done SFA work on the database since the .com craze took hold. I wouldn't treat it as gospel - check out what they have to say about Scotland....
