Platinum for 7 years with one upgrade on QF.
There isn't a defined set of rules for any tier.
Now that international upgrades are permitted I suspect it will be even harder.

It is luck of the draw, or perhaps Chairmans Lounge would help.

Also, to be fair I have not had any trouble upgrading from Biz to First on the US route yet using points. Touch wood as I am due home on Monday nights flight from LAX.
Boy will be glad when Qf108 resumes!

brianf:

I beg to differ but QF did indeed once fly across the Atlantic from JFK to LHR as part of a round the world service. I flew the route in 1970 and First Class had a female flight attendant, the only one with QF at the time,I was given to understand.

Not all QFF Platinums get the bonus of 4 international upgrades in a year. I have not one in a very long time. The last was Y to J since Y was oversold LAX-AKL (a good flight to get upgraded http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif) I have never had a J to F upgrade at all, and would have flown 30+ QF international paid J sectors in the last 2 years.

They only upgrade based on overbooking now, so you have got to be ticketred in a full cabin to have a chance of op-upgrade - then it helps to be Platinum.

This results from a long-standing political difficulty, the significance of which is apparently not grasped by bruceb.

What political difficulty?

I think you are getting the US - UK issue mixed up with QF. Although I understand as bilateral agreements are complex.

Look at NZ 2 – Air New Zealand fly LAX LHR (I assume they go across the Atlantic).

Cheers… Bruce

Actually its pretty much over the pole, but I guess we can call it trans-Atlantic http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Qantas club membership only gives access to QF, BA and AA lounges, not all OW lounges.

Dave, you are right. I stand corrected (sit, actually).

I'm also QF silver/OW sapphire which [b]combined[b] with QC membership gets me in. According to the old QC pamplet at hand!

I don't recall actually using any lounge other than AA BA and QF so far.

If you have OW sapphire you can use any OW lounge without needing QC membership. The new silver cards only have Ruby status. The membership won't allow access to CX for example even with a Ruby status.

I'll take your word for it!

Is this something that's changed with the new scheme or have I just mis-read the info in the past?

No change. Have a look at the OW web page at www.oneworldalliance.com

Gold members are sapphire and get business class lounge access, platinum are emerald and get 1st and business lounge access

Silver is ruby and gets priority check in/bag handling but no lounge access.

Under the pre sept 15 scheme, blue had ruby, silver had sapphire and gold had emerald. Anyone with a silver card had it replaced with a gold one

Well hello to both Bruceb and Ashley. Thought I might pop in and see how it was faring. Good habits die hard.

Bruce is right - US programas are more likely to comp. With the domestic capacity situation the way it is QF cant afford to add too many freebies into the lounges.
