Easy to change return date on awards or is QF so rigid like Europeans
Living near Brussels for 2 years, I found some Europeans to be very rigid. Maybe it's because of the language barrier and they don't want to argue. Airline tickets follow this theory. One has to fly on the ticketed flight with no exceptions. The luggage must weigh under 7 kg, 7.2 kg is forbidden (a true story - I thought I was going to be arrested when I took out a book to make the bag lighter).
How flexible has QF been as far as changing the return date on a ticket? I have an award for J class to the US and want to return sooner. Will they allow me to show up at the airport and get an empty seat? Airlines in the US are quite liberal in allowing early returns for frequent flyer awards.
The return is in about 3 weeks and no seats are currently available.

The reply is appreciated. However, my award ticket is not with Qantas Frequent Flyer. It is with US Airways for a QF flight.
A few years ago, I came back early on a Lufthansa award for a United Airlines flight (not a code share). I wonder if QF will allow it. Although it may seem otherwise, I usually fly on the flight that I am ticketed for.

I have always found Qantas a
"well if there isnt an X /U /Z class available im afraid you cant have a FREE seat!!"attitude.
It has happened to me at least 20 times.
it is also getting worse!!
I dont know about a US air or AA or BA ticketed seat but as far as QFF goes that is usually the case in my experience.

We've had Qantas make new award seats for us the day before departure. They have always been reasonable and flexible in my book. You should follow this up through USAir however -- they're the ones who'll have to do the changes really.
