London Based Cabin Crew
It seems that I have the answer to the mystery as to why the London based cabion crews seem to be the best.
Had a good chat to one of the Crew in F on a recent flight from HKG. She said to me that the majority of the crew in London have transferred from Aus. It's a highly sort-after transfer particularly amongst the younger crew members. They all of course have many friends living in London. So it's only the crew members with the best reviews / etc that get to move ... Makes sense when you think about. |
You may also be interested to know a lot of those Crew are Short Haul Crew that wanted to try Long Haul and got the opportunity to try in London Base. Many of them have come home now. Some who were given CSM roles in London have unfortunately been forced to come back as Flight Attendants, albeit for more money that they were making in London.
Behind the scenes there are still some teething issues with the base but I personally feel they contribute to the business well with money saving and a much needed fresh approach. Similarly to the way AKL does. And with the new positions being made in Australian Bases, I look forward to hearing your comments. |
Arrogance
Its a little arrogant to postulate that the Qantas LHR base is the best:mad:

G'day Mr. Qantas, welcome to FT :D
I believe ozzie's post is based on personal experience. Also, there are quite a few anecdotal posts on this forum and others indicating a generally better level of service from the London based aircrew when travelling on Qantas to/from London than on other Qantas routes. It's in relation to this that QF31/QF32 has been marked as one to avoid as these are the ones generally crewed by Oz Based staff. Sad, but true ... |

I havent had any LHR crew yet but if they are anything like the AKL crew then this is a vast improvement over the standard fare on QF, especially based on my experiences on the SYD-SFO, SYD-AKL, and SYD-ZQN routes which have been crewed by the traditional long haul crews.
Are some or all of the LHR crew being A380 trained? |
I agree that the London based crew offer a better service. I was flying home from LHR IN Y+ and the London crew from LHR to SIN were significantly better than that of the Australian crew from SIN-SYD.
Sadly after sticking up for QF over a long period of time my last few international flights with QF have been a big disappointment. From Time delays to Cleanliness of the Cabin to the Service. QF must lift their game and the cabin crew have a big part to play in this. |
All of the London crew will be A380 trained as well as 747 since that is currently all they are certified to fly, they can be endorsed on another aircraft type.

I know I have shared my two cents on this topic on several threads, but now this is in it's own little thread I have to state that I too think QF LHR based crew are the best in the network (sorry eoinnz). With the exception of one CSM who I think is a little ropey, most crew in all cabins have been fantastic.
|
I agree also.

Have any of you had the CSM from BCN? He's a trooper! :D But at the end of the day I reckon Qantas cabin crew as a whole are of a v high standard. :) |
I agree. I find alot of crew ex Oz have a condescending attitude I would extend this to check in agents as well. I much prefer the service on BA.

I also observed that the J Service on QF domestic are generally better than international J. I fidn the crew to be more proactive and less "laid back" |
Have to Agree. Have taken QF29/QF30 a few times this year, Once in J, Once in F and a return in whY. On both QF29 segments, the service was average at best in J/whY. On QF30 on the way back the F service ran rings around the F service on the MEL-LAX service, and even down the back of the bus the FA's were far better. The smiles seemed genuine and any request was met with a 'ill see what i can do' attitude and was actioned. Nothing seemed to be too much effort for them, even distraught parents with a particularly badly behaving baby.
Maybe the AU based crew should be trained by the LHR based crew. Would make for more pleasant flights on the entire network. |
Maybe it is something to do with the size of the base? Being small, it gives the opportunity for crews to get to know each other, more quickly. They end up flying with their friends, which I'm sure makes them happier and more friendly towards the passengers.
Also, being a reletively young base they probably feel that they have to do more to prove that the base can work. Excellent service resulting in good passenger feedback will definately sway management I would have thought. |
