Baggage Interlining with Air NZ

I'm looking at some good fares on QF CHC-AKL to connect back to my AKL-SYD-SFO flights. (NZ AKL-SYD; UA SYD-SFO)

Will QF interline my bags through to SFO from CHC? If not, how long do I need to allow at AKL. Flying cheapest economy ticket avail CHC-AKL, business from AKL. I'm *G and OW Emerald, if this makes any difference.

It depends on who checks you in at CHC as NZ provides some staff for check in, however I will not guarantee it will happen. (Whoops you are going to UA so I doubt it now)
At AKL I generally have my bags out with 5 minutes of landing, do a 10 minute walk to the international terminal.
NZ has a premium check in arean, around the middle of the terminal, you cannot miss it with the signage and hotel like lobby. You will also get to use the express immigration service. Enjoy the AKL KC as it will be the last chance to sample all that wonderful Kiwi refreshments.

I would say that you would be better flying CHC-AKL on nz as both NZ and QF seem to copy each others prices.

Are there hard rules (apart from positive: OW carriers) on who QF do and don't interline baggage with?

Tried looking on the QF website and - apart from the fact that it appears freight can be interlined to any airport in the world (so they claim!) - couldn't find anything relating to pax baggage.

In my experience they will check bags through as long as connection is not too short. Of course if CHC-AKL flight is known to be late at time of check in, that may be of no help to you.

As mentioned above, having bags checked through only as far as AKL won't make much difference.

Thanks for all your help.

I would have preferred to fly NZ rather than QF but the fare difference was massive. QF NZL$79 each way, NZ NZL$200+. I did check again this morning before buying the QF tickets. The Air New Zealaned UK site is still showing only the $200+ o/w fares. However, your comment prompted me to check the .co.nz site - lo and behold, this was showing the $79 o/w fares so I've gone ahead and booked AKL-CHC-AKL with NZ (better timings as well).
