I note the 52J config has the stairway coming up under seat 18B - Perhaps Qantas only found they could get another 2 seats upstairs by doing this after an aircraft or 3 had been configured for 50J. Or perhaps some aircraft have different floor strengths in that area (Perhaps the 'Ugly Sisters').

This is pure speculation of course ...

I don't know the reason either but the extra seats are able to be fitted because the coat locker is less than half the size of the coat locker on 50J configs.

And not limited to those Ugly Ugly Sisters (They have enough of their own isolated problems!)

I expect the odd aircraft (is it VH-OJE?) may have been converted from 2-class to 3-class. The 2-class all had the reduced coat locker to allow 24 upper deck Skybeds. If one of these was then later converted back to 3-class, then it would not make sense to remove two upper deck skybeds and insert the larger coat locker. It would be easier to just leave the upper deck untouched.

I assume that Qantas can just generate the extra revenue from the 2 J seats. I am sure most passengers would not notice a difference at all.
