Qantas Schedule Changes

SYD-BOM will go nonstop from 1 FEB 2008. Schedules are yet to be updated. Flights will be operated by 2-class A330-200s featuring 30J/201Y. These changes will see the removal of the pesky DRW tech stop.

AKL-LAX will be operated by A330-200s (36J/201Y) 3x weekly from early March. 332s will operate QF25/26 services on TUE/THU/SUN.

Please post any further changes....

Sounds like nice new aircraft. The AKL-LAX run wil be a better bet in the 332s (and quieter) than the 743s. Are the blocks times longer on the trans Pacs?

I'm guessing this coincides with an A380 on the direct MEL-LAX service and an A332 on the MEL-AKL-LAX milk run. Allows QF to keep roughly the same capacity as 2 x 747s on the route, yet allows a 744/744ER to be deployed elsewhere on the network. Also would mean an all Airbus route!

Does this mean that QF25/26 will be on time once the A332 take over as currently just about every day i see this flight comeing in late lol.

It is fairly often late, but not as bad as LA800/801. All I know is it will be even harder to get discounted or award availability in business ex NZ :( If A380 is doing nonstop MEL-LAX, hopefully QF will stop the shonky practice of putting business awards ex-MEL on the flight via AKL and forcing business awards ex-NZ to go via SYD or BNE.

Perhaps a JetStar representative may care to comment on this one.

My understanding is that the -200s were all sent to JetStar and QF mainline only operates -300s for longhaul flights. Is QF getting a few -200s back from JetStar or are they getting new ones?

QF have 6 x A330-200's arriving from DEC07 to DEC08 all fresh from Toulouse.

As posted, they are new. The 332's that went to JQ will be absorbed back into QF eventually and used for Oz Domestic and Trans Tasman runs. The reason for this is the original 4 332's flooring is not strong enough to take 30 Skybeds.

The new 332's have had been built with stronger flooring so they can take the Skybeds.

By far the majority of QF25/QF26 sectors ex MEL have been operated with Skybed equipped 744's - 743's operating this route have been the exception.

332 - 36j265y = 30j201y ??

Something does not gel here for me.

When comparing the VH-EBA's of the world (38J265Y) with this new quoted configuration I can understand the J seating being down to 30 from 38 due to SkyBeds being larger, but this does not indicate how the WHY capacity has been reduced from 265 to 201.

I see on QFlyer there is mention of 36J/201Y but an extra row for skybeds still does not explain the loss of 8 rows of WHY seating.

Maybe some F or Y+ seats. Oh look a flying pig.

My bet is J, Y+ and Y-. I also bet there will be a scramble to get Y+ on as many Pacific flights as possible.

I think QF NB means 36J/201Y for the new A332's.

38 millenniums at 7 across takes considerably less floor space than 30 Skybeds at 6 across. They will lose a lot more than just a few rows of Y to fit the Skybeds in.

On the A330-300, 5 rows of Skybeds fills the front section of the aircraft between doors 1 and 2. However, on the A330-200, that section is about 30% shorter, so assume they can only fit 3 rows and perhaps a toilet and galley, thus needing a further two rows of skybeds after door 2. Thus reducing Y to around 200 seats.

See this image from Airbus, and look at the example 3-class config. if 3 rows of Skybeds fir between doors 1 and 2, and 2 more rows behind door 2, the J will take about the space shown for F and J in the image.
