Seating Advice

Hi people (or G'day !)

I'm having a brief flirtation with Qantas to BKK shortly in Business Class. I'm usually a BA afficionado...

I have searched the form here but haven't been able to come up with very much...but I know it drives us nuts on the BA Forum when people do ask seating questions so if I end up being cattle-prodded so be it.

I've currently got 11A on the top deck which seems to be a good seat for a solo traveller. 16A looks better but I suspect doesn't open up until OLCI 24 hours in advance ? I'm OW Emerald (BA Gold) if that makes any difference.

I'd appreciate any advice you can give about which is a better seat for a solo traveller ? The flight looks to be very full as well

Thanks in advance

BAH

I would suggest booking a seat in the middle block downstairs such as 23D since they are the ones more likely to leave you with an empty seat next to you.

Row 16 can be pre-selected by QF Platinum or QF Chairman's Lounge members but if not otherwise taken, you can get them at check in time

I too follow this line of thought. However, I now prefer 23F since when they changed from Dreamtime to Skybed seats. the pair of IFE screens is not between E and F seats rather than D and E seats. So now its the F seat that has the chance to watch two different screens concurrently if the E seat is not occupied.

Note this only works for row 23 or 29 as they are the only triple seat bulkhead rows.

Lower deck right aisle will de-plane faster as the riff-raff from the upper deck clog the lower left aisle as they depart.

I've been preallocated 23F on an award ticket SYD-SFO in Feb (which apparently is a bit of a score)

Seems to me that QF flyers would stay put in 23F. However, at least on UA I like the side storage cupboards (to sit my laptop on) and the quietness. The IFE doesn't bother me so much. On UA however I could get row 15 (equivalent to 16 on QF) which I can't on QF, otherwise this would seal it for me

Given that, are there any other reasons not to change to an UD window?

IMO the best part about the upper deck is going upstairs, for the novelty.

Once the novelty wears off, downstairs is better. Side compartments, yep they are nice and novel too. (Wait until you manage to leave a Floppy Disk in one :o )

Or if you leave a novel in there (when you have bookmarked where you are up to before going to sleep).

Keep in mind that 23E has a good chance of remaining free, giving more space to leave your laptop that in the locker.

Still waiting for the novelty to wear off...:o
I like the private and smaller cabin feel of the UD though. :)

And no it's not just transportation that gets u from A to B. ;)

One other issue that may be important for some, on QF 744 flights the Business Class 'self-service' bar is downstairs! :p

Now you're talking... :p :D
Indeed this issue has been the subject of much indecision when deciding where to sit in QF 744 J. The UD wins out half the time in my case but at other times coin tossing has been involved. :o

Thanks for that. I think I will stay put but ask about 16 when I check in. Won't say which post swayed me the most :)

But if 23E is occupied, does that then make 23F substantially less desirable than an upperdeck window? Like the OP I'm in 11A, though this is on a 2 class 747 all the way from FRA-SYD tomorrow.

Not for me. In my experience, it is most unlikely that a single traveller will be allocated an E seat. So if you are in F, then it is most likely that the E seat will be occupied by a travel partner of the D seat passenger. That means the E seat passenger is most likely to exit via the D aisle seat, leaving you to sleep uninterrupted.

However, on the upper deck you are either in a window seat and much climb out over the aisle passenger, or you are the aisle passenger and have the window passengers climbing out over you during the night.

I also prefer the more private atmosphere of the upper deck on QF.
