Blocking seats

As a Platinum I can often get a seat blocked next to me if available on Domestic flights. Does anyone know if it is possible to get this done on international flights. At present I have bulk head seat but if can get seat next to me blocked will look at seat behind so I can lift arm rest.

Cheers

Generally you can request one a check-in or at the QP, however it will be up to the CSA whether they can allocate one (depending on loads). My understanding as a Plat, you will have higher "priority" to receive your stated request but it is not a given.

Good CSA's (like the one at BNE QP on Saturday) offer to block a seat for you :)

The nice staff in the lounge at Sydney blocked out a whole row for me, on a flight to HNL recently. Trying to defend it however is another matter...

For international, I've had some experience of seats being automatically blocked - but it never hurts to ask (in a way they can say 'no')...

I did not know this was possible on international flights - have done so successfully on domestic but never requested for int'l.

Will have to keep this in mind next time I am flying O/S

Last year on checking in for QF25 MEL-AKL-LAX at the First class counter, I was advised the flight was lightly loaded and was helpfully offered a row of three down the back. It meant moving from my 21C (743) allocated seat to 61H with 61 JK blocked. She had to ring QF in AKL to ensure these seats were blocked out of NZ as well. ^

BTW, Several Middle rows (DEFG) were empty but she advised they were harder to protect.

I had a row blocked coming back from Manila once.. I asked if there was any chance of an upgrade and they said no. So then I asked about blocking seats. She said she would but couldn't guarantee it would stay blocked. Rather than sit in my allocated window seat, I sat in the aisle seat to 'block' it from anyone else moving there as soon as the flight was airborne. Once the seatbelt light went out, I immediately lay down across all 3 seats.

At breakfast I didn't bother defending the aisle seat and sure enough, someone moved to it. But they returned to their own seat after breakfast.

I had a great nights sleep on what was a full aircraft.. Sometimes you're lucky!:D
