Is it worth it? Will I more than likely not have a seat mate?

73J as in a seat on a 744? What is your question about that seat? :confused:

Yes on QF 12, a 744. Seatguru colours it green. I was curious if seat 73j is a good seat or should I try and move further up in Y?

It's a good seat - try and get it if you can.

Re: seatmate - it's probably a safe bet that you WILL have a seatmate. These seats are known to be good (as they reduce the number of people to bother/climb over for those in the window). On the flights I've been on, they are some of the first Y seats to book even months out from the flight date.

It will be noisy. It will take you much longer to get off the aircraft. And the tail will wag in rough air.

Those are the three main disadvantages, which are usually enough in total to have me sticking with somewhere at the front of the Y cabin.

You only really hear news stories of injuries from turbulence from those unrestrained crew / SLF down the back. Of course news stories are never known for total objectivity or fact.

That wagging though can be very relaxing, I often choose the tail as I find the rocking makes it easier to sleep.

I sat in 73J last night/this morning. It was not bad at all. It seemed that there were a few things missing: amenity kits, hot towels (which they seemed to stop providing around row 65) were the 2 things I noticed.

I had a seat mate and she got up once during the entire flight.

The only thing annoying was I reached up to stretch once and I touched someone who was just loitering by the loo. Not a big deal, but at one time I felt like someone was watching the IFE over my shoulder.

I didn't notice the tail wagging or anything odd. I would recommend this seat again.
