Need help from local gurus'....

Hi All,

I have to do a trip for work that takes me from BNE to MEL to HKG to AKL to CNS to BNE starting on the 29th of March.

Can I try a circle Asia fare? (In Y)
OR
Am I better to go BNE to MEL to BKK to HKG to BKK to AKL to CNS to BNE
using BA WT+ on the MEL to BKK leg then AY J on the BKK to HKG to BKK legs ?

As this is work trip I cannot book a full J/D fare, but can use the AY leg as it is not high enough $wise to warrent a problem.
The trip must be completed by 11th April.

Thanks in advance for all your help/suggestions.

Cheers
Iain

ps I am now AA PLAT thanks to Sir Dave, if that helps.......I have Thai Silver...

I think BA is pulling out of MEL from around the 28th...? I don't think there's a direct flight from AKL to CNS...?

Is the order of the city important?

Leumas, Air New Zealand operate AKL-CNS-AKL with a mixture of 744, 763 and 320.

Last BA flight out of MEL is on Monday 27th MAR 2006.

I think you may be best to book this as multiple return journeys, such as BNE-HKG with a stopover in MEL. Then BNE-AKL-BNE and BNE-CNS-BNE.

I have not seen such a fare.

WT+ would be nice, but will really have you going out of your way and spending a lot more time travelling. As has been pointed out, you will need to be going via SYD and SIN/BKK as well, none of which are on your destination list.

You could go for a B class Asia Fully Flexible fare that permits 2 stopovers, hence hitting MEL and HKG and flying QF and hence earning 150% AA EQP and 100% AA miles.

Perhaps you can look for a cheap D fare on LAN from SYD-AKL-SYD, which would provide comfort and good earning.

I have not seen such a fare.

Simplest would be 3 tickets. One on *A circle asia. And separately two one-ways BNE-MEL and CNS-BNE.

MEL-SIN/BKK-HKG-AKL-CNS.

MEL-SIN/BKK-HKG-AKL-CNS.

But that is not going to help IainF with his AA status renewal and mileage accrual :p . Since when was "simple" a requirement for air travel  .

No but it might help bump TG Silver to Gold, or renew said TG Silver.

Oh the decisions, the decisions.....
I have left in the hands of my TA for the moment, but I am leaning towards just doing the obvious thing and buying individual flights... at least I can buy in Y/B class.
I would like to give the AY in J a try from BKK to HKG though. :D
Thanks again for your ideas guys. I do appreciate them. ^
Cheers

Hope your planning is coming along - tricky itin!

Just curious: not sure why you're keen on AY BKK-HKG? I can't recall anything special about the on-board experience, is it an SC thing? ;)

When IainF first asked me about this conundrum, I firmly pointed him to people like Dave Noble, NM and the experts on FT - the good Lord knows I'm no guru.

I'm wondering now how it's going with 3 days left. What's your TA said, IainF?? I'll put money on 3 separate oneworld tickets, all credited to AA :D

I haven't even got my first leg booked yet..........and that is just to Melbourne and I am supposed to be leaving in 24 hrs.......

The "J" RTW looks like it may turn into 3 x full Y or at least B tickets.....oh well, QF WP, at least I get to increase my AA milage. EXP Plat here I come.

I will let you know what I am up to.

Nothing like leaving it until the last minute and having to buy those B or Y fares, IainF. Yes, that will certainly help you achieve EXP. This should easily push you past the re-qual level for Platinum and well towards EXP.

Now just whether you buy through AA (to assist in the reduction of the fuel fines), or QF (using your TA).

Enjoy your tripping (no doubt we'll hear about it).

Well, I presume that IainF was in MEL yesterday and now on the second segment of his first ticket:

Close, I am currently sitting in the QP in MEL, but am unexpectedly heading back to BNE for a couple of days, THEN going BNE-AKL-BNE-CNS-HKG-SYD-BNE.....
Now a mixture of QF and CX.
Thank god for full Y tickets......

Will let you know how it is all going.

oh, and AA is getting all the credit so far.

Cheers
Iain
