Sydney Arrival Lounge

Howdy
Ive always had connections flying home, so this has never been a problem.

For some reason, I thought I saw that Sydney had an QP arrival lounge for International passengers, but now cannot find any info on this.

Am I going mad????
(I'm also wondering why the hell, I can see the words in my head on the Qantas site !!)

Most of the posts I have read about this are over 1 year old, so was hoping this has changed.

Ive also read posts about buying a refundable ticket for onward travel. But have an issue with some checked luggage, that I wont be able to take through security.

Thanks
Robert

Sorry to say, but there are no Intl Arrivals lounges in Australia. Something I think many of us wish would change.

Lets hope the good fairy smiles upon us and grants us this wish sometime in the near future. Don't hold your breath though.

Thanks.
I did find this. Obviously, Qantas thought once you pay and fly. That's all you get....

Anyway, I think I came up with a solution.
Book and pay for a fully refundable ticket. The cheapest I have found is $179 to Newcastle at 4.55pm (Arriving at 6.05am into SYD from LAX).

Get my boarding pass issued here in ATL along with my 3 others.
Arrive in T1 and go to the transfer lounge to get to T2.
(Not sure If I can take luggage on the bus. Might have to catch outside transport)

Dump my big bag here

Have shower and freshen up.

Q1) Cancel in QC or cancel up at ticketing??
Q2) Sydney to Newcastle is bout the cheapest Ive found @ $179 FFlex. Any other idea's???

Thanks again.

There is also a left-baggage facility at the International terminal which appears to be cheaper and more reliable. If you want to use the one in the domestic terminal I would verify first that it is actually open, I tried to use it a year or two ago and it was closed, they referred me back to the international terminal for left luggage. The other alternative is to leave luggage at Central (railway) station in Sydney, cost is less than half the airport rate ... not useful to you, but useful for others wanting to leave luggage when going into the CBD (of course carrying it on the train is a bit of bother and maybe impossible during rush-hour).

Hi
Thanks once again number_6 for your suggestions.

The comment about verifying that the domestic one is open, is a very good idea. I didnt even think that at 7.00-7.30am they might be closed..

Thanks once again....

It seems a lot of hassle just to use a lounge tbh, plus don't forget the $4 fee to get back to the International terminal. Why not just head to a hotel ?

You don't say whether your lounge access is via OW status or by travelling business/1st class. If the latter then also consider that if your flight to Newcastle is on a separate ticket to your international flight you will not have automatic lounge access rights so may be denied access anyway

Hi Dave
Status is QP PS. Have to stay at the airport because meeting up with family coming in from OOL at 10.30am.

So it is a bit of a hassle, well actually, its a pain in the a$$, but I havnt got any better idea's to kill 4 hours in Sydney airport after a 15 hour flight and an additional 13 hours after leaving home in the US.

Under normal circumstances, I wouldnt go to such extremes. So there is reasoning to my madness.!!!

There are public showers in T1. See here. Have to use your own towel though - none provided. Never used the facilities, but seems like much less hassle than the alternatives.

I would not check in to get a BP to NTL.

What I would suggest is to get an e-ticket. As a QP member you can access the lounge without a BP; they will generally just verify you have a booking when you enter with one swipe of your QP card. This is because patrons can check in inside the QP.

Once inside, you can make an appropriate 'phone call regarding your booking.

Serfty, your a legand.

I was thinking the same thing, but wasnt sure if it could be done. eg-ticketing was at the front counter, as well. Now I know....

Case closed, I think im happy with everybodies help.
Thanks to number_6 and serfty, for the plans. And Dave and Alan for the reality checks. :)

I have frequently just wallked in and flashed my QF SG card and never had any problems. I have walked over to the quick check machines most times and checked in, but have sometimes walked straight to the bar when I was picking someone at SYD & their flight was delayed. It has never bothered the matrons in the slightest.

Of course it might be different after the recent QP, uhm, "meetings" by FTer's ;) (Might be different for a paid QP member too?)

Normally get in just by flashing the QP card, however recently had a few more demands to swipe the card (and thus check your on a valid fare)
