It has been over two years since I got to enjoy F on QF and would like to know what to expect nowadays. I would like any suggestions. I am on QF 108 LAX-SYD in May and QF 93 MEL-LAX in June. I will partake of the main meal after takeoff and some part of breakfast, but I will stay up a good part of the flight at least one way watching movies. Do they serve a hot snack mid-flight?

A complete range of hot snacks and meals are available on request throughout your flight, including the famed steak sandwich, which will be offered to you on QF 93. Unfortunately the steak sandwich is not on the menu on flights originating outside of Australia due to inconsistent supply of beef, or so I was told on QF 108 some time back.

Yes, there is always a hot snack available on request in F. The options will be listed in the menu. There is also a snack available in business class, and if you don't want to the F snack, ask about what is available in J.

The best F snack is the steak sandwich, but alas it is not available on all flights. Probably more chance of it ex-Australia, but certainly look for it on the menu.

So the steak sandwich is still on. I have must have been mistaken in thinking that was a main offering, it seems to be the most popular meal of FTers. So I can have the full meal just after takeoff and then the steak sandwich later or other hot snack later without the FAs looking at me funny.

The steak sandwich is available on some flights. It is by no means a consistent starter on the menu. And yes, it is considered a snack (available upon request) rather than a main course. From what I have heard and read, it is more likely to be found on flights departing from Australia rather than flights to Australia, but there are always exceptions to the rule.

But if the steak sandwich is not offered on your flight, there will be a hot snack of some description on the menu.

Has the quality of pax and crew gone down that you're expecting a din in F? :p

But noise reducing headphones ought to reduce the amount of dinning.

The FA's will not look at you funny. In fact, despite my best intentions, I always end up having a hot snack, as well as the meal shortly after takeoff and the meal before landing. Maybe its because I always try and keep my fluid intake up :p and my body says time to eat. :D

Excellent. The reason I even asked is that last year I i was in J AKL-LAX and it was supposed to be a 2-class and lucky me I boarded a 3-class aircraft and I got moved from upstars to 3A. It was not catered for F and no bedding. I was up watching movies and having a a beer or 3, I did not get hungry until hr 8 and asked the FA if there as anyting to eat and she said not really but breakfast was in 3 hrs.

Thanks again for the help and anything experinces you may have had. Do they have Dom left. I saw reports here a few months back that there was Dom in F. I am not much of a wine drinker but do like the bubbly.

F serves snacks at any time, upon request. Technically you can insist on your meal being served at any time -- that is QF policy for F -- but most FAs frown on this severely and discourage unconventional meal times. As an aside, while QF has always had the terrific steak sandwich in F -- until 2 years ago, when it started disappearing from some flights -- AA has now added a steak sandwich in J on trans-Atlantic flights. Served as a snack prior to arrival, and every bit as good as the QF one (but with interesting differences -- well worth comparing the 2). So now AA J serves the same champagne as BA F and the same sandwich as QF F ... seems like AA is paying attention to Oneworld and learning from it.

And AA J has better noise-cancelling headphones that QF and BA F.

AA Y has better headphones than BA F (well, OK, they're similar).

By the way, Poker Professor, what's the best way to play two Aces before the flop in a heads-up ? Raise and get 'em to fold, or check it out trying to look nervous and hope they put a lot of money in, you then re-raise and hope they fold or call and don't get lucky ?!? (Only joking mate, love the handle ! Do you ACTUALLY have anything to do with poker ?!?)
