Validity of Miles
 

Hi,

I had 12000 miles on my Qantas FF account expiring September 30th. To extend their validity, I exchanged money at Travelex in early September. I have a confirmation form Travelex that I received 330 points for this transaction. These points have not yet been credited and thus, all my points were deleted.

Now I will be flying American Airlines next Monday and wonder if I should put the miles on my Qantas FF account (I have no other oneworld account). Will Qantas credit the Travelex miles with effect of September and thus recredit the deleted 12000 miles??

The best thing to do would be to give them a call and ask. Points from third-party providers can take quite a while to credit to an account, and the activity date is usually when they go in, not when you actually spent the money.

I was under the impression that QF FF miles no longer expire. Have I missed something here?

They expire, iirc, 3 years after date of last account activity. As long as you account has a mileage addition or decuction every 3 years, they will not expire

They don't expire, PROVIDED there has been some points activity over the previous 36 months. I'm guessing the OP hadn't had any activity and used Travelex purely to provide some activity.

Miles to get Silver
 

Does QF really care which airline you get your SC? Currently I'm base in Hong Kong. And I fly to BKK and SIN once in a while. This year I have kept my silver. But next year I will not be flying QF most likely on CX.
My penny question is that if I get all my 300 SC on CX, will they not give me silver?

There's a rule that you must fly 4 QF sectors a year to earn any QF status. However, past experience suggests that QF is not currently enforcing this rule - although there can't be any guarantees for the future.

If you are based in WLG, cant you do a couple of cheapies to CHC? Could do it in less than a day fairly easily.

Kiwi Flyer I'm actually working in Hong Kong. Based in Hong Kong for now. Must be another way. @:-) Does flying QF codeshare but not a QF ticket counts? If in need, might do a UK trip from HK-London woth QF's new route. hehehe

The real experts here will have a definitive answer, but as I understand it, it matters not how you get yourself onto a sector with a QF code, as long as the QF code's on your ticket it should earn miles as a QF flight.

For the 4 sector rule (currently not enforced) the sectors must be on a QF code that will earn points/SCs (ie excludes charters etc). It is irrelevant who the operator is or who's ticket stock the ticket was issued on.

The only OneWorld airline knowns to currently be enforcing the 4-flight rule is BA. They won't give you the BA status until you achieve the 4 BA flights. And in BA's case, they reset your status points when you achieve a level. So if you need, say 700 points, and don't have the 4 flights, you don't get the status and the points keep acruing. Then when you get the 4 flights, your points reset even if you now have 1000 points and you effectively lose 300 points.

But nobody has reported QF enforcing this rule. And QF are reasonbly flexible with renewing an existing status level (no flexibility with reaching a higher status level).

And yes, pointed out by others, codeshares would count. But even codeshares are not going to help Wongo in HKG. As far as I know, the only QF codeshares through HKG are CX to FCO and maybe AY to SIN (or is that from BKK?).
