PS checkin at Zone R T1 LHR?
I have checked in at Zone R as SG without a hitch. I was just wondering how a PS might go there, given BA have no OW Ruby level. I hope that this statement by Dave holds for this scenario.

As noted earlier, the priority thing is a bit of a myth, especially with BA. It's mainly because BA always do whatever they feel like to other OW airlines, but also partly due to BA don't have the OW Ruby level (i.e., QF silver) in their own scheme. Priority check-in is, IMHO, the single best FF perk there is if you can't guarantee that you have the luxury of hours to spend at the airport every time you fly. If you regularly have to turn up at the airport somewhere between -75 and -60 minutes for long-haul, knowing that you can go to the business class check-in area and get checked-in without hassle takes a lot of the stress out of the siutation. Yes, if you had to go to the Y area you could probably attract someone's attention and get queue-jumped or whatever, but it's more work and hassle than just using the perk. The only places that I had regular problems with BA as a QF PS was trying to check-in at US stations, where the check-in staff really had no clue about OW Ruby status. Other than that, the advertised Ruby benefits were usually forthcoming - including access to seating pre-allocation according to preference when all generally pre-allocatable seats had already gone. It needed a phone call, but it still does as a SG. On the occasions when there were problems at the airport, producing the printout from the OW website usually did the trick. |

Sapphire gets you lounge access plus a whole bunch of other benefits. Retaining AA Plat the following year could cause problems, but even if you miss out you will drop to AA Gold (oneworld Ruby, same as QF Silver) so still have access to shorter check-in queues (as others have said, a great perk). When you are Gold I believe you can sign up for the Plat Challenge again, but I may be wrong. I am a devoted teetotaller ... I much prefer to have showers at either end of my journey rather than in between, I'm an inveterate walker around terminals as opposed to sitting in comfy chairs ... |
