Amenities Pack

Lately I have noticed that I am using fewer items from the Intl J amenities pack, and often wondered why other things aren't included (eg spray deoderant). I wrote a quick note to Qantas on their feedback site, but was wondering - since QF staffers have been known to read this board - if a quick unscientific survey was in order to see if I was the only one who thought the contents of the amenities pack could be "fine tuned".

Does anyone have any thoughts about items not in the pack that could be included, or items currently in the pack that could be excluded?

Obviously Qantas can't satisfy 100% of its travellers 100% of the time, but it would be nice to get the majority!

Essential items: deodorant, toothbrush & paste, comb, socks, eye mask and ear plugs. The rest is simply a WOFTAM and takes up too much space.

Lip cream - helps the Krug go down better :)

The F Class Amenity bag I got last year was pretty ordinary. I heard they have upgraded to La Parine stuff!!

Also I heard they upgraded the J Class one as well?? Is it true??

I still think the CX one is slightly better!
I love the Bioterm Products!

I had QF J amenity kit on a recent trip, then the CX J amenity kit a week later. I felt the QF L'Occitane one was superior to the Biotherm CX kit - especially the more useful packaging.

I would like to propose no ammenities pack, just socks, earplugs and eye shades. Instead I propose making items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, deoderants (Nivea Compacts), handcream, aftershave available in the bathroom.

Finnair do this, and intially I thought it was a bit cheap, but then I got to thinking that it actually is quite good, as I have a collection of half used kits and would enable a higher quality product to be stocked due to less wastage.

Just my 2c worth.

Now if the airline - indeed all of them - had decent environment policies, they would NOT have disposable plastic cutlery (at least have washable plastic stuff - if they must fly to the land of the free and paranoid), they would not give out thousands of plastic bottles in amenity kits that most people only look at once then chuck in the drawer (hoping they find a good home in the future), they would have a thought that maybe, just maybe one day we will regret so much bloody disposable plastic stuff. But then again, now that Sydney has a new hole in the ground that's good for 70 years of garbage - well who in Sydney is going to care?

AY is ahead of the game with their kits. At least the J bag is intended to have an afterlife - a shoe bag or whatever. I'm sure its cheaper for them and the product is more useful.

Rant over, - thankyou!

I think airlines should reintroduce GIFTS instead of just Amenity Kits.

I remember CX used to offer J and F Class Pax special gifts (eg. expensive pens, silver bookmarks, special momentals)

SQ used to give Waterman pens (and supposedly still does for some PPS members). I never flew CX when they gave opulent gifts, except for chinese new year (and I didn't fly on the right dates). In the same era QF gave cases of Grange as Christmas presents, so I think QF had SQ and CX trumped in this respect. Sadly they don't do that now (actually I'm glad they don't, it really is a misuse of an airlines assets to resort to such blatant bribery; but if they should change their mind, they have my address).

Does anyone know if the current QF J kits include a razor and shaving foam? If not do they have them on board if you ask for them?

Cheers

They are included in the amenity kit. Here's a picture of the men's kit from late April.

Could not disagree with you more.

You pay an airline to get you from point A to point B. The more you pay the more comfort you get whilst getting from point A to point B.

Amenity kits are part of this, they help you to relax during the flight as well as help you to feel like a human upon arrival. Hence they are a valid provision for the flight.

Providing GIFTS (sic) on the otherhand (such as expensive pens, silver bookmarks, special momentals (sic)) is not a necessary part of the travel experience, it would only be done to make you "feel good" about the airline, and would do nothing more than to bump up fares.

On Top of the Gifts, CX does provide an excellent travel experience. Therefore I see the gifts as a Bonus and also the appreciation of the airline.

As for the fare, I must say Back in the mid 90s, From SYD-HKG return on CX and QF = around 4200ish.

Up Until last year it is still around 4700ish

Therefore I must say the gifts does NOT neccesary bump up any price.

What should be in an amenities kit.

Toothbrush, Toothpaste; yes
Razor and saving cream; yes
comb; yes
eyeshades and ear plugs; yes
face cream or such; yes

a pen would be nice, to fill out the landing cards; I can never have enough pens especially ones with an airline logo on them.

socks I usually can't use, I would rather they didn't bother.

Also I wish the bag that all this stuff came in was more useful, which I think is the most important thing, once all the stuff is used then you got to throwaway the bag unless it is useful.
