Queries on connecting/through checking from a TG Flight

I have posted this query on the TG board, but since it equally involves QF, I am hoping that someone here might also be able to help.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On my next trip to BKK I will be spending my last 2 days in HKG, where my problems begin. I expect to be returning to BKK on the TG607 due to arrive into BKK at 22.25.

I am looking to connect with the QF1 BKK to LHR which departs BKK at 00:20.

Ideally I would like to avoid having to clear immigration at BKK collect my baggage and then recheck for my QF Flight (since this could give me a very tight turnaround).

What are my chances of getting TG in HKG to through check my baggage to LHR? Or failiing this what are my other options. In case it makes a difference, I am booked in F with TG and J with QF and hold Gold Tier Status with BA (OneWorld for QF) and LH (*A for TG).

My other option seems to be to take advantage fo some cheap TG fares in J or F and keep my QF Ticket to use another time, however I am not sure how this works with flight timings, and since I will be working in LON on the morning of my arrival, I really need to sleep on the return journey and have access to showers and changing facilities at LHR.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Query about connecting/through checking on QF/BA from BMI

I will be travelling on QF32 from LHR to SYD on June 11 and was wondering whether it is possible to check in my luggage at EDI on my BMI ticket. These are both separately purchased E-Tickets and was hoping that I could avoid checking my luggage in again at LHR. This is my first posting to Flyer talk... so it would be great if somebody could help me out.

Tom (in Edinburgh) :)

If this is all on the one ticket, then you should not have any problems. Interlining of baggage is generally available providing the transit is less than 24 hours and its all on the one ticket. This has nothing to do with the class of travel or FF elite status - it will be available to anyone in any class with TG and QG.

If these flights are on different tickets, then you will need to ask the airline doing the original check-in (TG) if they will do the interlining for another ticket.

Last Saturday, I flew TG from HAN to BKK and then QF to MEL via SYD. TG checked my luggage all the way to MEL, but it never made QF2 in BKK despite 5 hours between my arrival and departure at BKK.

I must admit TG were very good about the whole thing. The error was realized quickly and TG sent my bags directly on TG from BKK to MEL, so they arrived only 90 minutes after I did.

Nevertheless, I think it shows that interlining between airlines that usually don't have a relationship doesn't always work perfectly.

Oh and another gripe. After arriving into BKK on TG, there was no rep at the QF/BA international transfer desk. Thinking OneWorld actually was an "alliance" I proceeded to the CX desk to receive my QF2 boarding pass. No such luck, I was told I would have to wait three hours until the QF/BA counter was staffed. This surprised me as I would have thought any OneWorld carrier could accommodate the this sort of request. At the very least, a joint CX/QF/BA transfer desk should be operating in a place like BKK, where people are flying in at all sorts of times to pick up the few BA and QF flights that operate there each day. Rather than wait three hours in the hallway that functions as the BKK international transfer area, I decided to exit the airport and spent a few hours in Bangkok instead (and then return and cough up another THB500 departure tax). I probably would have preferred to have waited the 3 hours before the QP opened in the duty free shops of BKK airport.

Has anyone else had experience like this?

I tried to check in for my AY flight at the BA First desk (as should be allowed as OW Emerald) but was told that they didnt use a compatible reservation system. I think technology is a bit antiquated at BKK, also some weird handling arrangements with AY being handled by LH.

Definetly - one of the few remaining BA stations that e-tickets are not available for.

Thanks - FT has been recommended by a number of people in order to satisfy my aviation fetish. I walk past the World's End pub every morning on the way into Edin Uni.

I'm just the scum of the scum on the QF FF hierarchy. Just do my yearly trip back to SYD on QF32 and have to make do with Ryanair and Easyjet the rest of the year.

If only QF flew the 747ER into LHR - that would make my trip in WHY more enjoyable (apart from the wine).

Cheers
Tom.

Welcome Tom. Don't get too caught up on the -ER. If you didn't see the marking on the outside, or know the rego of the aircraft, it is unlikely you would notice the difference between a 747-438ER and a 747-438 .... especially in the WHY cabin. The same slimline seats and IFE are on both.

Now, I don't believe anyone walks past the World's End Pub each day without stopping by for a quiet one on many occasions.

I just like the idea of the 747-400ER interior with the 777 style overhead lockers. I get bored very quickly when flying and need stimulation from all directions. Normally I like to sit in row 46 so I can talk to the flight attendents in the jump seats - on one QF flight the guy snuck in some champagne from BIZ. Arrived in SIN literally bouncing off the walls.

Now, I pass quite a few pubs on the way to Edinburgh Uni.... I'd never get my PhD finished if I stopped by every pub for a quick one (beer, that is).

Now that depends on the subject of your PhD :D . I am sure we can come up with a few subjects that would require the regular quickie ^ .
