Sydney First Class check in time
Hi
I have a through ticket flying SQ F into SYD arriving 0740 and leaving for PER at 1540 in J on a QF international flight as a P1 Given the time between flights Will I be able to check luggage in at the Qantas F check in straight away after I clear customs or is there a minimum check in time ? The P1 help line were uncertain Thanks |
I will expect either of two things.
1. What should happen --> If you have a "through ticket" (not separate) I would anticipate that SQ will interline them for you and you will not need to clear customs (if it is the INTL SYD/PER) and you can go straight to the F lounge via transit security and sit for 7 hours as is your wish. OR 2. QF muddle around with "D" transits on the SYDPER flights (even off an intl) due to requests from PER borderforce. And at some stage someone will tell you to pass through security ad pick up your bags - how they do this from SQ checked bags I have no idea. SYD QF F desk unlike other cities has all day checkin. That helps a lot - thank you
You always need to clear customs even if the domestic leg is "international" (I hope I'm wrong!) and you are checked through But I wasn't aware of the all day check in which means I wont have to wait too long 🙏 |
Look here for "Australian domestic flights departing from an international terminal"
--> https://www.qantas.com/nz/en/travel-...documents.html AU Govt --> https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-...ing-on-a-plane If you are travelling domestically, but departing from an international terminal, there are limits on powders, liquids, aerosols and gels. All aerosol containers must have a fitted cap, or locking device. |
Is the All Day Check-In at SYD also available for Business class? We’re on a BA flight due to arrive at 06:55 but our Quantas flight out isn’t until 18:50. Would be great to check in straight away to get rid of the bags.

If yes then BA would interline. If no you need to process AU immigration etc. Not sure at SYD but at MEL QFi do not open for check in until 3:00hrs before. Flew MEL CHC in QF J a few days ago. Are earlier flights. QF137 SYD CHC 10:20 15:25 |
Two things
1. SYD is all day checkin, at least on the F counter 2. Other ports like MEL, BNE etc which have limitations is only are only on checkin, if you have a through checked bag,on the same day it will be checked through. Only limitation is sometimes the flight is not “open” for border checking, which is usually a quick phone call. if the “domestic” flight is from the intl terminal and your bags are interline, there is no need to pick up, as you should be processed at your final intl gateway, which would be PER. But QF due to PER staffing have been wildly inconsistent on this. I would probably just go straight yo transfer or the F lounge - where ever the QF staffer is, and give them the bag tags. As they need them anyway. KF |

For those interested, I was checked in for my Perth flight (QF 33) about 7 hours before departure with no questions asked at the F international check in.

Interesting. We tried to check in about 9 hours before our flight at the F desk but were told to come back 4 hours before our flight. To be fair the agent spent about 10 mins trying to get us checked in and got his manager to try too. If it makes any difference we were on a J ticket and were just at the F desk as there was a big queue for J so the F desks were helping out.
We ended up spending about $60 to leave our bags at the left luggage desk at the other end of arrivals. |
Perhaps P1 status helped with the early check in
