Posted this on one of the travel blogs about my observations from Day 1 of the sale after the site crashed:
  • for day 1 of the sale, outbound dates (not shown any longer) were Feb 23/24 & March 1,2,8 to Melbourne and Sydney - 10 tickets on each flight for a total of 100 tickets
  • unsure on inbound dates that you needed to choose but there seems to be a range
  • I just did a quick sample of above dates and a return in 1-2 weeks - those tickets are pricing out (post $200 sale) at $695 per person, so essentially qantas discounted 100 tickets by $495 - so they "spent" $49,500 on the ticket portion of this marketing campaign for day 1 - not sure how "normal" this is with regards to discount amounts, number of tickets/dates available?

How, exactly, do you line up to get these tickets? Search at exactly 2pm EST?

I'm curious who gets these tickets. I have gotten a couple mistake fares before, but a planned sale is going to be chaos. But I will still try at 1600 central.

Once the deal is loaded, do they actually post the days the fare is available or is it a fishing expedition?

Thanks!

Ok, there was absolutely no way to get through that entire purchase flow without the site crashing. I just don't believe it.

Some people seem to have got these fares. From another QF thread:--

Well thought I might get it for 5/10-5/29, but alas it fell through at the end. Only thing left was credit card information and woof it was gone.

I got on and there was a blue Birthday Sale tab, but the fare immediately under it was over $1200 and if you tried to book it, it came up Premium Economy. Tried another one where the Birthday Sale tab was in a different spot but the fare came up $354 for Economy. Clearly, Qantas is having serious site problems.

Only 100 per day. Will be a lot more demand than that

To celebrate our 100th year, we’re offering 100 airfares each day for $100 * each way when purchased as a round trip.

We’re taking off into our 100th year and, as the world’s oldest continuously operating airline, we’d like to thank you with a once in a century sale.

Tomorrow, we’ll be releasing 100 airfares from Chicago to Brisbane for $100 * each way when purchased as a round trip for selected travel dates. Fares will be released at approximately 2pm PST/5pm EST on Thursday, 21 November 2019 until sold out.

The 100 per day $100 offer seems targeted at ex USA.
https://www.qantas.com/us/en/promoti...sale%3Aen%3Ann

And 20 golden tickets at Ł205 from UK on QF1/QF2 for 4 days
https://www.qantas.com/gb/en/promoti...nary%3Aen%3Ann

Many airlines to DPS. Look at google flights, www.webjet.com.au etc to see who flys SYD DPS
