Aer lingus FF partnership

I see that from 1 July 2019, Aer lingus flights will cease to be part of the frequent flyer program, as per https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/fl...ine-earning#ei

Anybody have any further info as to why? QF and EI have been partners for as long as i can remember.

There is always talk of Aer Lingus re-joining Oneworld. Could be related?

I'd assume it's just an agreement expiring.

If anything I'd think Aer Lingus (and for that matter Level) would be more likely to join oneworld connect as possibly just AA, BA and IB connections.

It is disappointing that the relationship is coming to an end as I guess it rules out Qantas being a partner if Aer Lingus did join Oneworld Connect. Although to be honest I don't think that Aer Lingus have any interest in joining Oneworld even as a Connect member.

It seems idiotic to stop mileage accrual just before re-joining Oneworld as accrual would then again become possible.

It might be hard to sell EI-operated TATL flights to AA/AY/BA/IB customers if status benefits are unavailable and you only get points if the flight is marketed by your mileage programme's airline, and customers would feel tricked if they end up on an EI-marketed AA/AY/BA/IB-operated flight. I think that some deal with AA/AY/BA/IB will be necessary if EI joins the TATL joint venture, and Oneworld Connect with AA/AY/BA/IB as sponsors looks like the natural solution.

Qantas to end Aer Lingus relationship in July 2019?

I was browsing Partner Earning page on Qantas, and I found this:

‡ Note: Qantas Points can be earned on eligible fares and flights with an EI flight number or operated by Aer Lingus up to 30 June 2019. From 1 July, 2019 members will no longer earn or use Qantas Points on flights with an EI flight number or operated by Aer Lingus.
underneath Aer Lingus earning information.

From this reading, it seems that QF members no longer earns any EI flight nor redeem from 1st July 2019. Is this a downgrade or signs that EI will not join oneworld after all?

Wouldn’t Iberia or BA be the obvious partner or sponsor for any OW entry (or re-entry) given they are all part of IAG?
