Seat selection fee

Is Qantas seat selection fee + extra legroom charged per flight or booking? Assuming a sale economy fare.

Eg. 1 booking reference. MEL > LHR (Layover SIN)
Would this be 2x seat selection + 2x extra legroom fees?

Wondering if it's cheaper to just fly premium economy with another carrier.

Just go to the QF web site and do a dummy reservation. Quit before it asks for cc details.
By "layover" do you mean same day/24hr transit or a stop in SIN for more than 24 hrs?
QF also fly MEL-PER-LHR

Edit 1
Just did a dummy search booking for MEL-SIN-LHR for random day in March 2019
Each flight had a extra legroom fee $115 & $130. Standard seat had no fee.

Premium economy flight are often 75% -100% more than economy
If you can find a PE on another airline for ~$250 more than QF economy go for it.
There are other airlines who will be cheaper than QF (~Asian Chinese)

Edit 2
$1276 saver economy one way
$2737 premium economy one way
on the dates as edit 1

Cheers for that. Can't believe I forgot to try a dummy booking first.

Yes, 2x fees as you are changing flights in SIN, and fees charged for flight. Pricing is very easy to find on step 2 of the booking process on QF websites.

For a standard economy seat on a sale fare (free for saver fares and above) this means someone travelling MEL-SIN-LHR will have to pay $70 for seat selection, whereas someone travelling SYD-SIN-LHR on QF2 will only have one flight, and only have to pay $35 for the privilege of selecting a seat.

However If you select extra legroom seat, you only get charged that fee, not the seat selection fee as well (it is either/or, not both). If you are the single flight number all the way through (eg QF1 SYD-LHR or QF9 MEL-LHR), you only get charged a single extra legroom fee, but it is a higher fee than the single sectors (so you aren't paying double, just $50 more!).

IMHO, Qantas it the most expensive carrier between AU and EU... I can get two business class tickets on LH (using TG/SQ between AU and Asia) for a price of one on QF... And because I am interested in real Europe (the continent, not UK/LHR) flight times are much better too...To be honest. not sure about any other class - I have never flown anything else than J between AU and EU since 2000...
