What’s the large ‘slug’ in the premium economy seatbelts?
Travelled in QF10 in premimum economy for the first time - many things disappointed me about it, not least the surprising lack of leg room.
What I found very uncomfortable was what I can only describe as a large slug in the seatbelt. It felt like having a cat on your lap the whole flight. What the hell is it?

air bags or a shoulder harness (three-point design, similar to your car) are common if the seats are on an angle (not fully forward), or if you can bang your head on something.
If the seats face full front without anything to knock in to, they may have a standard seat belt (no air bag or shoulder harness).
Some economy class front row (bulkheads) also have airbags now.
There are different designs for airbags, that QF one looks particularly large.

The PE 789 seat belt 'slug' is a huge design flaw.
For many average sized people it prevents the tray table being used in a stable position at the same time as wearing the seat belt.

but when they put them in business class seats the rationale was always sold as “because there’s nothing to brace yourself against. Similarly when they’re in row 4 on the 737s?
