Through Checking with Qantas

So me and my other half have decided to go to Bali in August and the cheapest flights we've found so far flying with oneworld from LHR is with Qantas and Jetstar Asia booking on separate tickets. Pricing is £515 to SIN and £147 with Jetstar Asia to DPS. However, these flights are available to book on one PNR via Qantas at £905 rtn. Question is, will Qantas allow us to through check out bags at LHR all the way to DPS with the two separte PNR/ ticket? There's a forum in here regarding oneworld interline and states that Qantas will through check with QF and QF partners only even on separte PNR/ tickets (correct me if I am wrong though).

Thanks for the help guys!

I would say No.
Jetstar is not listed in ---> https://www.qantas.com/agencyconnect...hecked-baggage
Jetstar, in its various forms, is not a Oneworld airline. Is a "non - oneworld" in the link

When it suits QF, Jetstar is a totally separate airline.
When it suits QF, Jetstar is a part of QF group (like getting an extra £243 (905-(515+147))
Jestar Asia 3K is partly owned by QF https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetstar_Asia_Airways

The details of where it will occur on separate itineraries is at https://www.qantas.com/agencyconnect...hrough-checked

This is not a valid itinerary for through checking on separate tickets

With separate tickets, it’s always a good idea to have your credit card ready to buy a new ticket.

It is indeed a risk. If buying a ticket LHR-DPS, I would widen my choice of airlines beyond OneWorld before going down the path of separate tickets

Overnighting in SIN will minimise the risk with separate tickets, but SIN can be very expensive compared with Bali so it depends on your travel objectives.

QF2 LHR SIN arrives at 05:10
QF1 SIN LHR departs at 23:55

The BA LHR-SIN flights arrive late afternoon ~16:00 17:45
The BA SIN-LHR flights depart late evening ~22:30 23:00

Will be others

If it makes any difference, 3K agents at the transfer desk have been known to process checkin without the need to go airside on standalone tickets.

UPDATE:

We have decided to book two return journeys with Qantas (LHR-SIN rtn) and Jetstar Asia (SIN-DPS rtn).

Leaving LHR on the 24th; arriving the next day and staying in Changi Crowne Plaze Airport Hotel for a night. We will then be flying to Bali on the 26th with Jetstar Asia. On the return journey, we are leaving Bali at 14:25 and arriving into Singapore at 17:10 which hopefully gives us enought time for our 23:55 flight with Qantas to London and enought time to collect and recheck our baggage at Singapore Changi. We have booked a 'Starter Max' fare bundle with Jetstar giving us 30kg checked baggage and carry on as well as meals and exit row seats on both flights. Total price came to £758 each.

We were going to fly with Emirates but since we both decided to stick to oneworld, we decided booking two standalone flights is our best option.

Any thoughts?

A very brave decision.
Jetstar is not Oneworld, so no OW benefits.
Check your travel insurance carefully and the balance you can put on your credit card, as post 4 above.

QF coded EK operated flights are eligible for QF, BA & AA points/avois. Threads on that topic in each forum

To me ff points/miles/avois are side benefit of travel:- not the reason.
Protection on a complete long trip is important to me.

Edit. DPS open

Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport, the second-busiest in the country, tweeted it had re-opened and operations should soon be back to normal.

Virgin Australia, Qantas, Jetstar and AirAsia cancelled flights earlier today.

The airport closure affected about 75,000 passengers internationally and resulted in nearly 450 flights cancelled, according to Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency.

Thank you for your earlier advice! We really appreciated it!

Yes, we are aware that Jetstar is not Oneworld, so no OW benefits but booking 'Max' fare will at least give us some flexibility with our checked bags and stuff. I guess the lounge access is a bonus (which seems pretty basic from what I have researched). I've purchased our tickets using my AMEX Gold Card which I believe has travel insurance so hopefully, that covers the trip with regards to Mount Agung. I will also be getting travel insurance through our banks. And if worse comes to worse and if Jetstar will offer rebooking, the we have other destinations in SE Asia as a back up (Phuket or Malaysia comes to mind but hopefully not!)

The problem could be if you are stuck at DPS and then no show SIN-LHR. That is when its gets expensive & a debate with the insurance company.
But will be other airlines that will get you SIN-UK some time. Just have your cc ready.

Indeed! We both have an emergency credit card just in case we are a no show for the SIN-LHR leg. Unless of course, Qantas will be able to accommodate a paid flight change/ reschedule.

Given the volcano ash problems with DPS over the last few months/years to me 1 ticket, with connecting flight protection, would be worth spending some more money.
At times I fly Australia New Zealand via a transit city with separate tickets. But I know the risk/cost/time of no showing with separate tickets.

When are you travelling? We will look for ash clouds at that time :)
