I'd say it's pretty limited. Not many incidents where a plane could fly for 2hrs but not for 6hrs.

SA has recently been operating a 332 under ETOPS240 for PER-JNB, and LA is closing on 2yrs operating 788/789 on SCL-AKL-SYD

Max weight in a 787-9 for cargo is 17800kg vs 20000kg in a 747-400 with a full payload of passengers.

With full payload of passengers, unless they have no check in bags, 747 doesn't have volume to carry that 20t. 10-13t is more realistic. (it "cubes out" first)

And then there are those RR engines on some of the 787 fleet. Big question mark whether they could complete an ETOPS diversion on one engine.

I thought so too until last week when i flew 787 in J and was surprised at all sorts of little problems that make J less pleasant than I expected from the specs. Some vibration in my J seat, for example (source unknown) but very surprising. Haven't felt that on other airlines 787s, so presume to do with the QF J seat. Bottom line is great idea but poor execution, hopefully to be improved pronto by QF. Didn't see the Y and PE cabin, much less try it out, so can't comment on that but 3x3x3 seating has its fans and its opponents. Personally I think 2x4x3 is better if you go for such density and plane was originally expected to be 8 across in Y by Boeing but 9 across is becoming the norm.

Yes. The fans and opponents of 3-3-3 are invariably the same people. Fans of it on the 777 and opponents of it on the 787

20T is the figure for the 747-400ER, they are QF figures, based on 2 LD3/6 LD7 left, which could be carrying lead
