Qantas Check-In times @ Heathrow T3

I've found the following info online:

Their lounge opens at 07:55 daily and their check-in desks opens 4 hours before departures.

Qantas has two flights on the day I'm travelling, QF10 (11.55) & QF2 (20:45)

Does anyone know if their check-in day remains open between 11:55 and 16.45? I depart on QF2 and intend to check in around 12pm but I'm afraid of arriving early and either no one will man the desk to check me in or unlike BA, I can check in anytime as a GOLD

Thanks

No, QF LHR T3 check-in closes after QF10 closes, not opening again until after 4pm for the SYD flight. (Last time I took QF2 it was open at 4:20pm.)

Good to know!

Do you think they'll let me check onto QF2 during QF10's check-in time?

They have opened QF2 for check in for me early in the morning. This was a couple of years ago - I had platinum status and was flying in F.

Don't forget this month QF10 starts flying to Perth with a 13:15 departure instead of the 11:55.
Just realized I created an issue for myself with separate booking......

Why not, if they get Ł40-Ł60 from BA/AA per passenger. At least that's what I've been told the CX lounge charges for entry.

Check-in for tonight's QF2 opened at 1641. I arrived at 1545 and the area was deserted. I went away and returned at 1615, by which time the F queue had 2 people standing, and the Y queue was about 20 people deep. Everyone except me remained standing there for the next 30 minutes as more and more people arrived. The staff slowly ambled in from around 1637 at which point I joined the OWE queue.

Any recent experiences?

I'm considering checking in around 9am for QF2 if possible and doing my meetings out of the airport for the day.

Otherwise I'm competing with traffic after work to get to the airport around 19:00

Generally only F/WP can check-in during the "wrong flight" checkin period. Nice WP benefit. It isn't arbitrary, LHR is tight on baggage storage hence why QF doesn't open check-in 12 hours ahead of flight time Also any security alert on your day of travel will cause early bag acceptance to be suspended, so there is no way to know what will happen on that day. If you want certainty plan on not being able to checkin until late afternoon.

Cheers, only other times I have done early checkin is HKG/SIN and they make it easy

I'll plan around an after work arrival.

....
Yes, HKG & SIN do make it easy but those airports have sophisticated baggage handling systems including storage bays, while LHR seems to stack long connect bags on the tarmac. Fwiw, NRT also doesn't allow early baggage acceptance (due to lack of storage capability) so this is an airport problem more than an airline problem. Sometimes you can get special manual handling bending the rules, but increasingly rare these days.
