HKG-SYD aircraft recommendation
Hello, first time on this QF forum so please bear with me if someone has asked this before.
I am going to SYD in October for the first time and I have made it my mission this year to try as many different OW airlines as possible beyond my usual BA/CX/QR. Perfect chance for me to try QF as I have always heard good things, I will be flying in J but I am a bit stuck on choosing between the a330 and 744.
A330 with the new suites would normally be the winner but I want to fly on the 744 as I haven't been on one for more than 10 years. However, I am not a big fan of the seats (and the seeming lack of privacy), even though someone told me the pod seats are nice. I might end trying both but want to hear which aircraft do you QF pros prefer?

330 is much more private and makes better use of the space, every seat has aisle access
747 is old style, some seats do not have aisle access, much more space (distance between seats is much bigger)

Worldwide B747's are being withdrawn from passenger service
No USA airline now flys passenger B747's
More survive as freighters B747--xxxF

330 are way better experience. tried both 747 and 330. whilst 747 is well doable with generous seat pitch, you really want the new 330 advanced seating. particularly their IFE.
747 whilst have personal preference, i learned even their seat 1A isnt really front facing due to presence of locker at the tip. so contrary to myth of "front facing" 747 its not the case for QF

If you can skip this one to fly on a 747 of BA I'd take BA and go for the A30 here.

seat 5B/J to me feels "too open" in middle of cabin, but it has good storage space + extra table if you want to work.
If you aren't going to work, I think row 2 if you can, row 1 is too tight for legroom so row 2 offers better leg room and feels more private. I think it's blocked unless you are status flyer.
Also just in case, a bit of off-topic, but if you are "trying OW airlines" and travel the world, make sure you have checked ex-NRT DONE4. priced at 7k USD+tax (all in 9k usd) ex NRT and you can really crank up on the miles. Sounds like you have time at your disposal and planning a DONE4/5 is more fun than the holiday itself!

By October you might also have an A380 option as QF still hasn't announced where the spare frames that will be created by the shift from DXB to SIN and dropping of the LHR leg from the MEL service.
Though it has been speculated that the aircraft will be repainted this year in DXB.

Note that if you are book J on 388 flights and are QF Plat or P!, you will be seated in the F cabin (F is not sold on this route): I have just done this. Not sure if this also applies to other OWE...
