Yeg - lax - mel

Hi All,
Flying out of YEG to LAX onto MEL in a couple of weeks and with this do i need to clear customs and Immigration at LAX and will my checked in continue on or will i need to collect and recheck? Flight is code share booked with QF.
YEG arrives into T2 and approx 12 hours before the MEL flight departs.

Thanks in advance

For flights from Canada to the US you will actually clear US immigration and Customs in Edmonton before departure. When you land in LA you will arrive into the terminal as a domestic arrival. You then need to exit the terminal and walk to your right to TBIT. Not sure if you need to take your luggage with you or not though. Perhaps others can answer that part for you.

US immigration and customs is pre-cleared at YEG prior to boarding your flight. If single ticket than bags are transferred at LAX to the MEL flight, otherwise you need to check with the operating airline on whether they will interline. With 12 hours to kill at LAX you have some choices, what I usually do is rent a car and drive north on Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu. Getty museum is worth a visit. So is Venice and Manhattan Beach (just north and south of LAX, reachable without a car but more convenient with).

Like many Canadian ports, YEG / Edmonton has US immigration performed before you depart.

So if on the one booking then luggage will be likely be checked through to MEL and your LAX arrival would be treated as domestic.

Absolutely agree with this.

I've stopped there on every trip before flying back to the UK. Stunning views from the gardens and terraces, amazing permanent and visiting exhibitions, and lots of nice places to lounge outside.

Getty museum has a great policy of giving priority admission to out-of-state tourists. For locals you need a reservation as they tightly control numbers to keep crowds small.

Hi All,
Trip completed and all very simple with the US customs and Immigration at YEG. Another bonus was an airside shuttle bus from T2 to TBIT.
