I always wear noise cancelling earphones on the entire flight of a 777. My favorite is the 748 - front cabin - LH in F - so quiet you think the engines were turned off. A380 is real nice as well - one reason it is some popular with passengers.

If you fly back-to-back with another aircraft you notice. I've flown 777 and connected to an A330 and the other way on the return. The difference is HUGE!

In this cabin walk-around video you can hear the extreme noice from A/C. It is a parked aircraft! No engine sound, no movement noise from outside just the A/C system. Unbelievable. Only in the front section before doors 2 it seems to be a bit more silent and in the middle of the of Economy cabin. I haved noticed over and over on my flights with 777Ws and even asked cabin crew if it is only feeling disturbed. Nobody really admits the problem and hundred of these planes are sold. Typical airline industry problem. I love the 777 for many aspects but the noise is sometimes unbearable if you want to sleep.

Certainly, the 380 is quieter. This allows me to hear the galley chatter so much more clearly, and that is noise that is much better at preventing me from getting to sleep.
I do have a different complaint about the 777, though. A problem to which I was first alerted by a cabin crew friend. Nosebleed city.

I'm in agreement. The 777 is noisier in the cabin than the 380 to a considerable degree, although I need earplugs to sleep on both planes.
It also has very dry air which causes the nosebleeds and headaches, which is particularly bad on longer (e.g. West Coast USA) flights. You need to drink a lot
of water to counteract this!
I definitely prefer the 747 over the 777 on all routes.

- B777 engines are like coffee-grinders.
This is particularly noticeable right after push-back when the pilots fire up the B777's mighty beasts.
Luckily if you are sitting in the front cabins of the aircraft it's less of a hindrance, but still... it's one of those things I like about the A330 and especially the A340/380: they're really silent compared to B777/747.

One hopes that Boeing will address the noise and cabin pressure in the 777X, but I have my doubts.
With the eventual fade out of the A380 over the next 10 years and the inevitable ubiquity of the 777 in all forms, I'll be always on the hunt for 787 flights.

Probably not. The 777 is still an old fuselage made up of aluminium instead of the carbon fibre on A350 and 787 - allowing higher humidity and cabin pressurisation to a lower altitude . 737 max is a death trap and 60 years old; now Boeing springs on us an old long haul airliner in the 777x with bigger windows and folding wings. Give me the A380, A350 or B787 any day.
