Qantas Business Class Sapphire Allowance

Hi all,

Flying from NTR to Christchurch via Melbourne in buisness class next week. I am One World Sapphire (Plt AA) and want to know if I will have an additional luggage allowance.

I called Qantas and not only was the person very rude they told me they didn't know!

Any help would be much appreciated so I know how crazy I can go record shopping

Happy holidays!

Prehaps this is the new 789 route that will be announced?

I've been pinged for excess baggage by QANTAS whilst I was OWE with CX. I had to go to the desk to demand a refund. QANTAS ground staff don't seem to have a clue and neither do QANTAS's systems.

My reading of the various rules is that you get 40kg, with no single piece larger than 32kg.

In their notes on Oneworld benefits, QF states: "37. On flights operated or marketed by any oneworld partner airline, Sapphire members travelling in Economy and Premium Economy on international or domestic itineraries using the baggage allowance “weight” system receive 15 kgs in addition to the ticketed Economy allowance;" There is no discussion of benefits on Business itineraries.

As always, YMMV.

That is QF's wording for QF members travelling on other OW flights

If it is CHC-NRT via MEL, then based on desctiption at https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/sapphire-privileges and https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/extra-baggage-allowance , it doesn't mention the "travelling eonomy class" bit , so could be inferred that there would be a 45kg allowance rather than 40kg , since economy allowance plus 15kg is > business allowance

Even so, the difference is not huge and would plan for 40kg rather than 45kg

Even so, if that's how they interpret the rules, I would be expecting to go with the standard allowance unless you want to be paying upfront and having to "demand a refund" later.

Unless QF did allow for economy+15, it would lead to a strange oddity of having a higher allowance in economy than in business

Since it is only 5kg and the issues it could cause, I would agree that sticking to 40kg is the most sensible approach

Depending on the use of "next week" and being posted on sunday, it is quite possible that the flight has already been undertaken and it is all moot anyway
