Upper Deck Economy A380

Hi all,

Anyone know when the upper deck economy seats are released?

I'm QF Gold on QF2 in 4 days, travelling 1 other adult.. All upper deck economy are greyed out and wondering if (assuming) they've been selected by other pax already or if they'll be released soon?

Thanks in advance!

upper deck books out fast, at 4 days out they will have all been selected. Upgrades might happen to release some of the seats though so keep looking.

You don't indicate from where to where.

QF2 can have different seat availability for LHR-DXB, LHR-SYD & DXB-SYD.

Assuming 6th and LHR-SYD then Expert Flyer returns the following based on my WP status:

As an AA Plat, a month or so ago going SYD-LHR upper deck economy seats became available for me to select around 80 hours out. In fact I even ended up with an empty seat beside me.

Rather crowded but 33D/E/F/G are free. I do not recommend 36D/E

Thanks all.

I keep checking and the odd seat appears but only really interested in the two seats either side as I like and window and so my husband and I can get up without waking a random passenger in the aisle!

I'll keep dreaming!

I fly QF1 regularly and am QF Gold and on numerous occasions I've snaffled 32A and 32B at 48 hours prior to departure. I tend to check every week or so to see if seats open up, as that 2 minute check is worth it for these long hauls.

Just as an aside as I've never been on a QF A380, is upper deck Y any better than downstairs Y?

Side storage bins for window seat passengers
Smaller economy cabin
Less dense economy cabin on the upper deck (2-4-2 layout instead of 3-4-3 on the main deck)

I'll add my vote to saying yes to that. However it is popular and on one trip it was totally full, but when I went wandering down onto the lower deck it was fairly sparse and most people had 2 or 3 seats to themselves and a decent number lying across the 4 middle seats.

If you can spare the dosh, and aren't status, it's worth paying the extra for the exit row seats. These aren't as good as when it was PE up there and the exit row seat was like a double throne - no one in front or behind you. In the current Y config there is a row behind and the space isn't as much but still very good. I do recall it being a bit chilly by the door however.

Just an update to say we flew home on QF9 on 31/12. Was able to snag 33J/K just over 24 hours before the flight.

Well worth checking as the seats and service were great. Very much enjoyed having the window storage bin and the ability to get up without having to wake the aisle seat passenger.

Will definitely try for these seats in the future!
