Fri QF8 DFW-NAN-SYD
April 22 Friday's QF8 DFW-SYD diverted to Fiji
As a result Sunday April 24 QF11 SYD-LAX is delayed 2 hours departed at 11.50am
(with a 30 minute connect to the JFK flight- yikes)
Sun April 24 QF11 LAX-JFK delayed to 10.00 after both A388 from SYD & MEL arrived ~ 8.15am.
Sun April 24 QF11 LAX-JFK landed around 18.30 - it will be interesting to see how quickly they can turn the aeroplane around in NYC
Qantas SYD - DFW service goes daily April 26, 2016

If you miss the connection to the QF flight to JFK, then there are plenty of other flights from LAX to New York that QF can rebook you on
2 hours delay is not going to be a major impact methinks
Given that QF11 is the onward QF flight to JFK, I would not be surprised if it is delayed out of LAX which will allow through passengers to get to JFK
