The Qantas London Lounge - Opening 2017 [Pre opening discussion]
Qantas will open a new lounge in London in 2017, modelled on their latest product at HKG/SIN/LAX, with a British twist:

The lounge occupies the space of the former Air Canada/Scandinavian Airlines lounge, over two levels in Heathrow Terminal 3.

On the negative side, HNL and NRT to close.
Albeit more of an impact for QF elites on JQ.

Great! Hope I'm still Gold by then!
Now if they would follow it up with a route to Australia on QF metal that goes via somewhere other than Dubai!

There's no dedicated F lounge. CX, BA and AA all have dedicated F lounges, with CX currently under refurbishment to align with their latest concept.

There's nothing special about the HNL lounge. It's absolutely full to overflowing when QF or JQ are anywhere near. So full, you literally can't even move. The staff are constantly moving people's bags off seats so others can sit. It's more relaxing outside.
And as for the email message sent to everyone, thank goodness the words "reach out" are not used.
Likewise, if we are getting wifi, is this another "announce it now and deliver it next decade" spin?

Agreed! When both QF AND JQ are leaving within minutes (e.g. Sundays QF4 to SYD dep 8:20, JQ2 to MEL dep 8:45) it's bedlam. Perhaps "nothing special", but it's been a lifesaver for me when coming in from Micronesia at 3:30 am and have to go and wait outside for a few hours then check-in again for QF. The shower and the bottomless guava juice makes me hugely grateful for access to the HNL QF lounge.

Seems crazy to upgrade lounges in places like London - where there are already options when there is nothing remotely inhabitable in T1 PVG which QF use now. I think they should update the photo on the website for this lounge to reflect how it really is the one they have up there now is some sort of fantasy. Thing is there are no paid options either - no reasonable restaurants or cafes after security.

LHR is a much more important station for QF than PVG (despite the latter certainly rising in importance in recent years).

Wow I'll have to arrive at the airport extra early so I can lounge hop the BA, QF, AA and CX lounges all before one flight

It's consistent with QF's whole strategy for building business in China. No interest at all apart from maintaining a HKG spot. Just look at how many seats come into Oz from China in B registered aircraft compared to VH aircraft. i assume it's all too hard (which it may well be). QF probably realised this after CX booted JQ Hong Kong out of contention.
