Or, like RadioBloke, just keeping his QFF account alive.

I actually called up the Woolworths EDR line today to tell them that after Dec 31, I will take my grocery shopping business anywhere that is cheaper and fresher and that I no longer have an incentive to shop at Woolworths after my local store has self check-out only for customers with shopping items in the trolley. The manned check-out at my local store is only for customers with a few items in a basket.

Are you really saying that you have been deliberately buying products of a lower standard and higher price to purchase QF points?
If Woolworth's is a cheaper location for some shopping, you would deliberately pay more due to no QF points? I assume that you will cancel the Woolworth's reward card?
If so, I suspect that you are in a very small minority

Will continue to shop mostly at Woolworths for the specials and occasionally at Aldi for the mainstream foods. No such thing as loyalty anymore (it cuts both ways of course)
Interestingly the announcement was on a Sunday - thought these things usually were on a Friday afternoon but I guess it was leaked a few days ago.

I was able to upgrade the flights to Business class each way using (physical) QFF upgrade certificates.
These days, FB represents a minimum ˝˘ per $ rebate - although for me there can be better value in other redemptions.

The very original FLybuys scheme earned 1 point for every $20 you spend. Flight redemptions could be had for 550 points

Now you mention it, while I did enroll on FB's inception, it did take me a while to accumulate and given that 550 the scheme did likely evolve before that redemption. (Given the use of paper certs, it was last century ... turn of at best.)

Would have been in 98/99 they changed the program from earning 1 point per $20 to 1 point per $5. Exsiting balances and redemption rates were basically muliplied by 20, so a 550 point redemption became an 11,000 point rdemption.

Some may stop shopping at Woolworths, but there's a big issue for QFF:
- QFF generates huge profits for the QF Group, with over $300m last year (of which up to $80m may have been delivered by EDR)
- they're busy adding the number of non-flying partners you can earn on, presumably charging them a pretty penny for the privilege
- while converting the program into a shopping loyalty program, they're steadily reducing the value of those points, and making it harder to earn from actually flying on QF and partners
- now Woolworths is sending a message that awarding QFF points isn't driving any loyalty valued beyond the cost of acquiring those points
Given that the financial success of QFF seems to be driven by adding 3rd party partners, the impact of this decision on the QFF business model will be interesting to watch.
