Qantas Flying to Istanbul

Make that Istanbul

Unfortunately for one trip only

SYD-PER-IST 21 April
IST-PER-SYD 28 April

747-400

QF100 Same Flight number there and back - I presume the plane is having an extended rest. Maybe an Anzac Day Gallipoli flyover or is that a bit too disrespectful? Maybe not - Qantas does have a strong history of involvement with our troops during conflicts.

Except that with the current Middle East conflicts, Australian troops are / were flown on foreign flag aircraft with foreign crews. Maybe it'll stop with the A330 tankers / transports operating, but it was a poor show with the White tail A340 and Portugese(?) crew flying our guys to war a couple of years ago. Could you imagine the USA doing that?

It's not going to Istanbul Atatürk (IST), it's going to Sabiha Gökçen (SAW).

Managed to score a redemption seat on the inbound. There's a chance I will be in the region around that week, so just might take that flight back to CBR via PER.

I didn't notice that the flight was terminating in Asia- does that mean it would be an Oceania-Middle East Redemption in those programs that so structure their award charts? @:-)

Usual rubbish via the QF Booking engine.

Input SYD-IST for those dates and get offered the QF100 flights to SAW, plus the usual IST alternatives.

MEL-IST returns the usual QF-EK/BA to IST only. MEL-SAW returns nothing.

Regards,

BD
