They may have lost some of the economy crowd to Delta, UA, Virgin. Many people eat out after arriving on a flight.
I had not considered the impact of kids eat free night on international travel. What were they thinking?!

One of the "funniest" posts I've seen on FT...

Tuesdays are one of the lightest load days, even more so when there's children involved as to maximise holiday times, you'd fly out on a Saturday or Sunday.

On price, you'd have lost that crowd to UA, DL anyway.

LOL - the original post is hilarious. Hard to imagine they'd lose out to DA or UL on a route where QF has the monopoly!

QF8 DFW2010 - 0605+2SYD 388 x3

That's the northern winter times. It seems the arrival time is fixed and the departure time floats with daylight savings (i.e. in October, depart SYD 14:10 and depart DFW at 21:15).

Good news if you fly into SYD on QF8 with an onward connection; not such good news if you originate in DFW and have to fight peak-hour traffic to check in.

This may not be the last word, since the schedule still shows 744 operating QF8 (but A380 operating QF7) for each day except Sunday from November on.

I also noticed Tuesday departures don't stop at the same time A380 is introduced, e.g. A380 flies QF8 on Tuesday 7th October.

I think it's not bad. It's leaving 1 hour earlier than usual. So you are able to eat earlier, then go to sleep at a more convenient time than before. Besides - the car service is the one fighting traffic. You just sit and relax.

The northern winter time is moving from 22:00 to 20:10, so it is two hours. For me the time change is a negative, but to each his own.

Merry Christmas (sort of). A lot of J class aware availability from SYD-DFW on QF7.

What is strange is the absence of F awards, and J availability from DFW-SYD.

How long does it usually take for the codeshares to show up on their partner airlines' websites? On American's website, I only see QF7 and QF8 but not the AA codeshared flights.

Two Things

1. Dallas peak hour traffic lasts all of 20 minutes (and is horrendous)

2. Proud QF is maximising aircraft utilisation by pegging a 6:05A Sydney arrival, 5 minutes after the airport's nighttime curfew lifts at 6:00A. QF8 will take a DFW delay when headwinds are forecasted favourably

That is only true if the driver takes the most direct route to the airport and pay tolls. It's considerably more on non-toll roads, and round about routings (eg. North on DNT, then West on 121).

It takes many people a lot of time to get to DFW because they don't know that the quickest route to DFW is not the shortest route (they count on the GPS) - and the quickest route changes based on time of day. For example, there are times when it is quicker to take Bush, and others 121.

I had been booked on QF8 in J using AA miles in February. Got an award wallet email about two hours ago about a schedule change (nothing from AA). Saw the change and that my seat changed. Logged on to manage my booking on Qantas and saw it was the 388. Logged into AA and saw there, too, that it was a 388.

I hoped award availability would be freed up, but when I search for an award on QF8 on aa.com, it's still showing up as a 747 with a stop in Brisbane. And when I try to book a revenue ticket that day, it's also still showing QF8 as a 747 with stop in Brisbane.

Hopefully they load everything soon!

I booked business with american miles
UPDATE:
Called AA and was rebooked on the A380 business, longer duration now with 3 legs instead of 2 but at least they are flying on tuesday, not sure when that goes away.

I will be on the A380 for almost 17 hours!

Was your DFW-BNE segment originally booked with an AA flight # or QF? I noticed the new booking wasn't AA7375 but QF8.

It was said to be an award ticket, and these are not booked as codeshares, so it would have been a QF #.
