Celebrity sightings
David Helfgott, that pianist who was the subject of the movie Shine, was on my HBA to MEL flight today. Actually he sat behind me.
Also on the flight today was that female Asian flight attendant who featured in the QF new uniforms video.

Indeed...there is no shortage of celebrities on flights these days; that is how they get around; but they tend to hog the front of the plane. Cher was probably the most high profile celebrity I encountered (if that is not overstating it) on a flight, but did chat to Barry Jones and Geoffrey Robertson (once each): we all have to join customs queues, the great leveller.

I was actually in Y from HBA to MEL and David Helfgott was in Y too. The cabin crew obviously knew who he was and came around a few times to check that he was comfortable. A couple of other pax did try to ask him for his autograph.

Had many brushes in Y and J. Dennis Lillee would be the biggest name I have seen in Y. Sat in 5C against his 5D from ADL - PER about 6 years ago. Funnily enough our business interest are now so closely linked I see him often.
I still recall the dissapointment of the crew who thought they would shuffle Beyonce onthe same route a couple of years later only for her to cancel, charter a jet and ship her crew in Y instead.
I have had the pleasure of a 5 hour flight next to Adam Gilchrist where we shared a common objective, him hoping I wouldnt try to talk to him the entire flight (barely a word) and me hoping he wouldnt go all DYKWIA on me (which he didnt). Funnily enough I did plasy photographer to about 20 people without restraint.
Most recently I was crammed into the flying bus with the crew from that .... channel 10 breakfast show when they were absolutely hyped up. Belling was like she was on speed, Exelberry seemed to want to focus group a plane load of people happier to watche the movie and Matheson was trying not to be "too cool for school"

I had Richo (Graeme Richardson the political powerbroker, not the footballer ) sitting next to me in row 1 on a SYD-MEL flight (he was going to the cricket but couldn't leave without a comment about Alan Joyce to the crew who tried their best to not react ). Also a year or so back shared J with Delta Goodrem
Speaking of footy, sat across (in whY) from (then Essendon coach) Kevin Sheedy returning with his coaching staff (didn't see players on that flight that I recall) after a game in Adelaide. "Sheeds" drank red wine and was good natured. Also flying into Adelaide sat a row or two back from Rex Hunt.

A few of my sightings over the years:
Sharon Ghidella (Channel 7 Brisbane newsreader) whom sat in 1A on a Saturday evening BNE - SYD, Kerry OBrien (ABC presenter) also in seat 1A on the first SYD-BNE flight one weekday morning. Both just had hand luggage and quickly bolted from the airport on arrival.
Kieren Perkins (Olympic swimmer in the 90s) in one of the front sections of Y BNE-SYD one weekday morning.

John Symond & partner on DXB-SYD in F 3 months ago.
And 2 months prior to that on the same flight, a famous British actor, can't recall his name. Was met at the door of the plane by a QF staff that escorted him out.
Plenty of polos out of CBR (Rudd et al., etc.)

I lined up at security with Glenn McGrath and Michael Clarke a few years ago. Clarke called him "pidge" . Must have been 2007 - they were all suited up and on their way to the WCC in West Indies.

Year 2002, flight BA001 LHR-JFK. Aircraft: Concorde. Person of interest in seat 1A (me in 5A). Name: unknown, but he was " Mr Super Cool" and wore pale blue sunglasses for the whole flight and had 6 massive body guards with 2 way radio earphones that met him in baggage claim in JFK and whisked him away as soon as his bags appeared.

Saw Jenson Button and his model gf at the F lounge in NRT. Turned out on the same flight to SIN and sat a few rows behind them. Then saw Mark Webber and his dad at the F lounge at SIN. Took nice photos with them both
Andy from Hamish and Andy were on a few flights between Syd and Mel, one time dressed up in some costume with 7/11 I believe. Once Any sat behind me, barefooted stretched his leg out that his legs were appearing where I was to put my foot down.

My best was sitting next to Russell Howcroft from the Gruen shows in the front row of Y on a MEL-SYD flight. Initially he was snoozing behind his sunglasses. Of course, Gruen Transfer then came up on the screen right in front of us. Had a nice chat about the show.
