QF11 Downgraded to 4-Class 747

The Dec 12 QF11 got downgraded from an A380 to four-class B747. As it doesn't have a "suite", what am I missing out? Is the B747 F meal service similar to A380 F meal service?

I assume a 4-class B747 holds less passengers from a 4-class A380. What happens to the folks who couldn't get booked on this flight?

The flight now leaves 90min later. I am so glad that I assumed a potential 2 hour delay when choosing my connection.

QF11 Downgraded to 4-Class 747

I find it strange that QF website hasn't modified my booking nor updated the status of QF11.

Both the 744 and A380 have 14 First seats. QF won't consider this a downgrade. F service will be exactly the same - only the hard product will be different.

You can get a sense of the hard product difference in this review page ... big difference

Yes there is a difference in the hard product.
But it is still a large fully flat bed with decent storage.

The main difference is in the IFE - from the old 10" popup with less selection to the 17" swing-arm with Panasonic software

The food and service will be the same.
I suspect if the A380 was full, passengers will have been transferred to the other QF services that departed earlier (eg. QF107)....

Anyway, enjoy the extra 90 minutes in the QF First Lounge, that is probably the best part of it all.

My first thought when I got the news since my airport pickup didn't change.

Sadly the F seats on the 4-class B747s don't have a massager which I find odd. Years ago when I flew J on a B747, I recall it had a massager.

I have found seat massage features a WOFTAM. Absolutely useless. If anything is at all useful, stopping them in the "right" place gets the seat more comfortable.

Was on this flight and quite upset about the downgrade. Okay without the A380, but not okay to sub in a crappy old plane with slanted seats when you sell me on flat business seats.

What do you expect them to do? Keep spare 747s around with lie flat seats? Those older planes are not going to be refitted, and will be retired, as I understand. This is normal industry wide.

You probably missed this, "All flights subject to last minute aircraft changes".

Is this the page you read?

What's next? You'll complain that your plane doesn't have the latest painted livery that is shown on their website? Their stewardesses look nothing like the ones online?

You mean Miranda Kerr isn't everywhere? My first QF flight is in less than two weeks, seems I will be sorely disappointed :D.

I think she is Sydney based, so only those flying out of SYD will get her service.

Going slightly off topic, but I did show this picture to my wife prior to our flight as the proper way to get out of a Chauffeur Drive car - http://www.qantas.com.au/img/760x250...us-760x250.jpg.

You need to twist your torso 90 degrees to your legs, and extend both arms out in a buddhist gesture. I practiced this in my office chair a week leading up. The last thing you want to do is look like a fool.

Don't think my complaint is analogous to livery or stewardesses. It's a matter of product and for Qantas to resolve, not me. The basic fact is that I paid (more, incidentally) for a certain product. When that product is substituted out and replaced with an inferior version, irrespective of underlying reason, it is acceptable for customers to be upset. I don't care about the small print -- such legalistic jargon is found everywhere to allow outs for companies.

Miranda is very short compared to the guy opening the door. "Normal" height people need to bend down to get out of those cars - given the "internet" suggests Miranda is 1.75 m tall, I think QF publicity photos are photoshopped - ie fibbing. Either that, or the door opener is about 3 m tall
