Difficult to answer. By end April we might be up to 4 A330-200s complete (out of a fleet of 16 growing to 18). So by raw mathematics about 25% - but I suspect slightly higher on the SYD-PER routes.
If you post your exact date - someone can look up the seatmap on ExpertFlyer

2. If not likely, what is the difference on the old seating between the A330-200 and the 737-800 which will be on QF571 an hour later? Obviously wide body vs narrow, but what else? My domestic flights in Aus in recent years have never extended beyond a SYD-MEL-BNE triangle.

First you might alternately get a Skybed I aircraft, otherwise you have a range of 2-2-2 seats with fold-up IFE or 2-3-2 with the middle seat table.
The IFE is normally better on the A320s (not all 738s have it), otherwise much the same

Many thanks, much appreciated. Likely travel date would be 26 April. I did try to look at the seat map via the website timetable, but the link for the QF569 seatmap fails and takes you back to the homepage. The QF571 link works ok for the 737.

The B737s all have the same configuration so it's 12J 156Y.

QF569 on 26 April is currently showing as one of the ex-JQ A330-200s in their original (non-refurbished) configuration. Bring along a book if in Y, J has iPad Minis and qstreaming.

moa999 Feb 13, 2015 6:26 pm

The third aircraft is now in service
VH-EBA A330-200

This is the first of the older A330-200s that did not have Personal IFE in Y.
Instead Qantas have installed iPad Minis.

The installation is however different to the 767/717 ipad install.
Instead of a cloth flap to hold the iPad in place there is a spring loaded holder, and two USB ports - one for providing power to iPad and one spare.

Thanks for the info, shame it's not the new J seating on the A330, would have liked to try it. I would be in J, but guess I might take the later flight on 737 if the 330 won't even have the old skybed.

Any know aware of how many A330-300s have the new J?

Regards,

Edit: Oops. Note to self, spot the difference.

Regards,

Only 1

-300s - QPA
-200s - EBV, EBC

QPC went into the shop 17/1. Given QPA took 2.5 months, and the -200s have been taking 1.5mths, I suspect it will be a while longer (say end March) till it will be ready

Those times seem a bit long, given it takea 6-7 weeks for a D check.
Are they doing anything else to the aircraft at the same time?

ermen Feb 20, 2015 8:06 am

i can't wait to try the new suites... issue is i can't get a redemption for my PER - SYD that I was hoping for...

wondering if this similar to the cx suite?

shuuy Feb 20, 2015 7:00 pm

The CX suite I think is longer and herringbone, with less storage.
Qantas is wider, parallel to the length of the plane, and more width/less length?

Looking forward to mySYD-PER on an ex-JQ A330 next week . I've decided that if it's not a skybed, I'm flying Virgin.

(FWIW I'm on 5300 SC with 3 months to go, and 1400 SC on Virgin with 4 months)

Compared to that configuration, the new seats are a definite improvement. My other main comparison point are the business seats on the A380 (I fly DFW-SYD regularly).

Overall, I prefer the A380 seats due to better lower leg support when you're partially reclined but not in full-bed mode. In full bed mode, I didn't notice a significant difference.

I hate the Skybed 2's on the A380/refit 747s. Mainly because of the in arm screen. But most of my QF flights are either 717/737 or A380/747. Of all my QF flights over the last 2 years, only 1 was a A330.

Might have to route via BNE for my next TYO trip so I can try the new seat when the flight starts.

I'm looking at QF35 MEL-SIN 21 Aug and QF30 HKG-MEL 29 Aug 2015 in business (AY connections to Europe). Will the new seating be available on these flights? It's a bit hard to tell. I really don't like the old product and will switch to another airline, even though it will cost a lot more as there are 2 of us. Especially for the overnight HKG-MEL. Thanks

moa999 Mar 31, 2015 4:29 am

By August I would say a very high likelihood on those routes

A simple search on Expert Flyer (seat map section) will show that its the new seat layout for QF35 on 21/8. As you would know, this is now rather than what you'll actually get.
